I was bored and saw a YouTube video about GTNH. Since I'm a completionist, I decided to jump straight into it as my first modpack!
This screenshot was taken about 5 hours in. Progression feels slow, because my laptop is screaming, but I'm a patient guy, so I don't care bout that
Is it supposed to be this painful? Please give me any tips, tricks, or performance advice. I really want to beat this pack!

its like “ive got my driving license 2 weeks ago, lets start with f1 today” wish u luck btw
That texture pack is throwing me
Seems familiar though for some reason.
Also, as your first modpack is fucking wild dude, my god. If you beat this you may actually be John minecraft himself because I’m not sure if anyone has ever pulled that off as their first pack ever
As much as some people would love to tell you, if you’re new to modded Minecraft then don’t play gtnh.
If for some reason you still want to play it, then I hope you’ve looked at the wiki and aren’t playing on the curseforge version.
lol, yes it’s supposed to be painful but the pain comes from either a knowledge gap or it’s an indicator that the thing your currently building will help elevate some of it.
Getting your first anything sucks, but it gets addicting because it gets a lil easier, then it ramps up with new toys to play with. Rinse and repeat.
Without getting too in depth because the questbook does alot of work and you can find tons of GTNH content, here’s some things that can help.
The crafting station (not table) can help make recipes that require water buckets much easier, just put the crafting station in a body of water.
Ore veins seem complex but they aren’t too bad, just pay attention to the lil xml menu that shows humdity. Ore veins spawn in a very easy pattern to follow. Left click the ore you find and eventually it’ll mark it on the journey map. If it doesn’t mark, dig deeper.
You’ll want to install the Java 25 version of GTNH, might help make your laptop scream a bit less and it’s much easier to install. You’ll just need to install prism and follow the instructions.
I’m not sure if you have any more ram to allocate but see what you can do, seems you are only using 3gbs of ram? Any modpack will feel sluggish.
I typically put 8 but with the java 25 version you can mayyybe get away with a lil less.
Also turn some of the graphics to either fast or off, turn off mipmap and knock down render distance. I played with a distance of 6 and it’s not too bad
a new copypasta hit the timeline. this post is too perfect… *chef kiss*
This is bait right?
8×8 textures and 4fps….
