this is actually pretty similar to how i organize mine.

I usually do my hot bar 1-3 weapons 4-pickaxe 5-torches 6-platforms 7-building block (usually wood) 8-0 change on progression like ropes, bombs, hammer, fishing rod, mirror, misc

Tools on the hotbar as Main weapon, Secondary weapon, Pickaxe, Axe, Hammer, then Torches, possibly. Magic mirror in the final hotbar slot for quick access from weapon.
Everything else dumped into main inventory, click sort, lock all items. If I need something, I’d just drag it to my hotbar until I don’t need it, then back to where it came from.

I would put everything in a vacuum bag, but that’s just a personal preference.
