Why do the old couple get the tiny room and Alex gets a room that makes up a third of the whole house? He'd be one of my last picks to marry for this alone.
Granny Evelyn definitely seems like the type of grandma to insist her big strong grandson takes the bigger room (especially after his mom died).
But George should have the bigger room as a wheelchair user, so he could navigate the space more easily!

I feel like George and Evelyn had the mentality that they don’t need so much space when they took in Alex as a young child after his mom died. Because wasn’t he a baby when his mom died and probably felt he needed a ton of space for all his stuff and to grow in. Also they are from a time where people didn’t have huge rooms so as long as they can fit a bed, bedside table, dresser and some small decor they are good

In my mind his bed room is upstairs, while the grandparents are downstairs, because of mobility.

Why do you automatically assume he picked the room? It’s more likely that Granny Evelyn and George chose to give their orphaned grandson the bigger room so he could have space for his weights and athletic equipment.

“Grandma i dont need the bigger room I can take the guest one”
“Your young you need more space you’ll grow crooked in a small room besides me and your grandpa barely spend any time in our room nowadays”

I would say that the living room area is essentially Evelyn and George’s version of the left 2/3’s of Alex’s room.

I like to imagine it was his mother or father’s room before they moved out, and they gave it to him when he moved in. A lot of parents irl choose to keep their kids rooms the same, because it’s a memory thing, especially if they only had one kid. I imagine granny and grandpa only had the one, and they passed away, so why not give the room to their grandson, the only remnant of their, no longer around, child?

Probably same reason my kids have the bigger rooms, they have way more stuff they need. Alex works out so now he can have all his workout stuff in his room instead of the shared space

Maybe because the grandparents of the abused kid who’s mom just died should get something?

This is just how grandparents are. I believe they wanted to give him the most comfortable personal space possible. Also, he’s a young, athletic guy. He has enough room to work out and study. As I said, grandparents don’t need a big reason to sacrifice things for you, they just do. I think anyone who’s ever lived with their grandparents knows exactly what I’m talking about.
And I know Evelyn absolutely spoils Alex with food (I like to think that he was a chubby kid).

I mean the livingroom is likely all George’s. Alex needs his own space. They probably don’t spend any time in their bedroom aside from sleeping.

I’m sure when the *child* moved in he’s the one who dictated this arrangement.

Besides the stuff everyone else is commenting, Alex spends more time in his room. I’m also an adult living at home still, and I have the bigger bedroom because I spend way more time in my room than my mom spends in hers.
George and Evelyn only use their room to sleep, while Alex is seen working out in his. It makes sense that he would get a bigger room.

When you are a kid, your room is a place you spend a lot of time in. As an adult, its primary use is a place to sleep.

Because he’s living with his grandpar and that’s just the kind of thing grandparents do.

Evelyn spends a ton of time in the gardens and George spends all his in front of the tv. Alex spends a lot of time in his room

It’s the same with Sam’s room. I tend to think that as they are “adults” living at home, they have a bit more space since the probably spend a lot of time in their room.

alex actively spends several hours a day in his room. george and evelyn only really go in their room to sleep.
also my grandma personally would bend over backwards to give me the biggest room in the house, especially if my dad was a piece of shit and my mom had died. it’s very likely they gave it to alex, not that he took it.

Because he deserves the privacy of a nice sized room as the rest of the house is Evelyn and George’s
