  1. Depends on what you’re using it for.

Torches for caving? You’re probably okay for now.

Fuel for a lot of furnaces? You’ll always run out sooner than you expect

To save fuel, use Coal blocks instead of straight coal since it gives 80 smelts instead of 72 from the same amount and do NOT waste it on cooking food just trade with a farmer you’d get Golden carrots which are WAY better than just cooked food

  3. If you can still see coal while walking around the area, then no. I am a compulsive coal miner, and I do not know why.

  4. Find some drip stone and lava for infinite fuel, then you can use coal just for torches. It’s one of the first things I do on any world

  5. Save the coal for torches! You can try finding an ocean and kelp, cook the kelp into dried kelp, make that into blocks, then use that to restart the process. It is pretty much infinite smelting/cooking materials! (It grows very fast)

How long is a piece of string?

Depends what you need coal for? For the whole game, no way, not nearly enough.
