What do you guys think? Would you prefer new characters first or updating dialogue+giving depth to others first?

  1. I think it’s better to add to existing characters, rather than just putting in more. Not only does it help flesh everyone else out better, but it’s also easier to add a schedule, heart events, etc. than to make a new character from scratch, figure out what they do, where they live, having other characters mention them so that they actually feel like part of the town…

  2. I’d prefer some characters get more depth: Clint (who potentially is), Sandy (who potentially is), even Caroline, Pierre, Marlon, Pam imo could use a bit more depth.

New characters can come whenever CA feels ready to do so.

  3. This is what Stardew Expanded is nice for. Leave the writing of Eric’s characters to flesh out and if you want something more you can install the mod (although it does add some limited new stuff for existing characters).

I just want my guy Gunther to be a real villager I can befriend (and marry, is there a mod for that..?)

  5. I agree with CA, adding depth to existing characters before adding more characters would be cool.

Much rather have him expand characters. There’s plenty of things that can be done with existing and many are under-served.

Demetrius, Gunther, The entire Adventurer’s guild, Morris, even the marriage candidates like Alex & Leah could use some filling out for sure.

There’s just so much more than can be done with who’s already there adding would make sense if it was also in service of bulking up everyone else as well.

I’d love to see a late game expansion that extends the plotlines for established characters further.

    Edit: justice for Alex 😭

  7. Listen I love Marlon as much as the next bimbo but GUNTHER IS RIGHT THERE. Gimme my mustachioed museum man I wanna chat him up at the saloon about fossils and stuff

  8. I agree, I think it was necessary when they added Leo, think we definitely needed some kind of new character you can befriend from Ginger Island. Is just nice seeing him move to Pelican Town.

But in future updates, unless new areas like that are being added, would prefer depth being built into the current characters we have. Especially if we get to interact with Marlon, Gill, and Gunther more. Also would be nice to be able to influence the relationships between the characters e.g. maybe a love triangle between Marnie/Marlon/Lewis you can control, or setting up the pairs bachelors and bachelorettes together.

  9. I’d love to see tweaks where t love interests change their dialogue once you’re romantically involved. Annoys me greatly when an NPC still acts like my partner is single

  10. I am all for adding onto existing characters rather then adding new ones. Don’t get me wrong, new faces are fun, but there are so many characters that deserve an expansion

Marlon mentioned 🗣️ please let us befriend him 🙏 add him to the social tab with hearts and all

  12. I prefer building up existing ones before adding new ones.

But frankly at that point, I’m just incredibly happy that CA still works on the game like that and expands it every now and then.

  13. Yeah, I want “behind the counter” characters to get more depth first. Wanna be friends with Marlon and the rest.

I would love to have some more ‘platonic’ roommate options, like Dwarf or Hat Mouse.

  15. The bad thing about ConcernedApe is that there isn’t a copy of him to work on Haunted Chocolatier

new characters would be nice but i agree with him! the characters are honestly a bit underdeveloped and i think it’d be better to work on them before bringing in new characters.

also im praying for a little Sam development in 1.7 cause.. yk.. flair. and i think his events didn’t do him justice

I really like the idea of adding more depth to existing characters. That’s why I think Sandy becoming a marriage candidate is a really great idea. She has so much potential. Also, yes, please let’s do something with Marlon. He deserves more. The same with Linus and Willy.
