I used to always look for flat plains, but since i almost never flattened them myself, I ended up having structures on different levels (Which annoyed me in mid-late game). So I moved to the oceans, since they’re huge and flat, and if you put light sources as you build and block entrances from ground with doors, you won’t have to worry about mobs anymore.

I love a good river biome surrounded by a dense oak forest on either side, it really lends itself to medieval style builds. Carving your way through the dense forest creating pathways is always fun. Building smaller settlements, logging encampments, and campsites down the river with smaller docks is always a good edition too.
I haven’t played the game in about 3 years though, the urge to play has been absent for a while now.

Desert, strictly to do a trade hall and trade glass panes which is pretty easy early game. Usually I’ll find a chunk that touches a jungle/mesa if possible and transport villagers there to make a base

Anywhere with relatively flat islands that don’t have assortments of caves so that I could build my own base. I’m having mixed feelings about that abandoned mineshaft I’m converting into an underground base right now.

I have a tendency towards caves and plains but this time I’ve been building a tower in the middle of a large river that cuts through a mesa/badlands area and creates a pseudo-Grand Canyon. I also built a dam but I’m thinking it’s kinda lame compared to the much larger tower.

Sorry for the blurry pictures.
