I set out to beat each class in hardcore, and the higher stakes definitely made the game more fun. Still pretty much every death was pre-hardmode from boulders. Mage was probably the hardest and it was only the fastest because it was the 3rd I did, and I spent 4 hours farming a barnacle staff on summoner. The other 3 classes seem to have better survivability and more consistent dps.
I feel like the natural progression would be to beat each class hardcore on expert mode, but I'm not sure that will change the game meaningfully. I beat the old master mode a while ago (Not the one where you start in hell).
I'm also considering combining all the hardest seeds and playing through with 4 characters (one of each class), and beating each boss once per character, only allowing myself gear that is accessible in progression on that character. One issue with hardcore is I found myself investing less and less in the worlds and just building the bare minimum to get by, because who cares about a pretty base if you lose it when you die, and having multiple characters on one world would have the opposite effect

Damn those are fast playthroughs. Do you just rush bosses?
