No it doesnt, just go to hell and farm demons until you get shadow scythe. It melts king slime in less than 10 seconds there is no excuse

Doing a mage playthrough on expert right now and I can confirm. It doesn’t even begin feeling adequate until post-skeletron. Still my favorite class though.

Something simple like Acorn Staff that shoots leaves would be great

Does anybody else feel like the classes almost don’t even matter until you’re ready to fight WoF and go to hard mode, even on expert difficulty? Never really get why people act like one side gets the shaft in the early game, they barely exist.

Honestly the weapon situation isn’t nearly as bad as the mana situation. If you get a slightly lucky wand of sparking you can fold that ever so naturally into a wand of frosting which is hands down better than all of the weapons put here and even some other decent early game options
The problem is that if you don’t kill an enemy fast enough for them to drop a star to kill the rest of the enemies it’s dunyun rings for you until you get the stars you need.

took me over 40 deaths to get the thunder zapper because i thought it was a good idea to go for it with a wand of sparking and minimal armor. was it worth it? yeah tbh its way better than the diamond staff. but i have a very strong hatred for those worms now…

I’m playing mage for the first time right now, and it’s so funny to me, how they basically use the same set up (Demon Scythe+Jungle Armor) for the entirety of pre-Hardmode

The Summoner in this scenario is bedridden in a coma, and can’t even look out the window.
