Also me: forgets that ducks can swim.

I'll see myself out.

  1. I can only imagine how salty the other animals are when the grass on the fenced side runs out

So, a couple of things might help depending on what your goal is.

The ducks can only enter from certain tiles. If you want to use less fence you can exclude those tiles in the area or block those with a chest or lightning rod, etc.

If you pet them they can enter the water. If you don’t pet then they’ll be on land. That’s so you can still get your hearts without having to wait for them to get out of the water. The ducks will go back home in the evening. There’s no real need to fence them in except to pet them without chasing around the farm, and you’ve got them enclosed until you pet them.

Tbf, if the game were even more realistic, the ducks (and maybe even the chickens) could simply fly over the fence.

Silly question: why does everyone fence in their animals? I kinda just let them roam around, haven’t figured out any downsides to it yet

As far as I can see, there’s no tiles it affects for them to get out since they can’t enter/exit water to the north.
