I grow them because i enjoy it AND they come in clutch when I'm low on funds or wanna have enough to buy whatever I want at a festival
The main drawback is that they dont ReGrow , so you either have to sell your profitable fruit, OR turn it into a Chance at 2-3 seeds.
Ocassionallu 1 berry = 1 seed which is just basically a full season delay on your profit.
Ancient Fruit however regrows and then the berry you put in to be seeds also just replenishes itself. AF can also become wine which skyrockets the profit you get off one fruit.
So while Gem Berry is better for 1 season od profit, AF is better for long term π
You can also use gardening pots to grow them all year around in your house
I grow it inside my house, in a garden pot + deluxe retaining soil, I kept it as decorations or emergency funds in case I need some money
Right up until I hit perfection I didn't grow more than just the two. After that I decided that I needed to create a big shed full of pots all with deluxe water retaining soil… Not to sell. Just to have them. I'm about 1/5 the way there.
I have a deluxe shed full of pots and deluxe retaining soil just full of gem berries
I grow 2 – 1 for the stardrop 1 for shipping. It's just too annoying otherwise
I grow them every season they're such a lovely money boost come the end of fall
the description lie
must be for the case that a person get them on the first friday of fall, day 5, if you plant the same day with nothing else its just enough time to reach 24 days
I find them a bit boring but I'll usually put down a small plot of them every year. I'm also giving them a display section in my greenhouse in my newest save.
To sustainably sell SGB you need to grow about 2 for each one you sell, making their profit half of what their sell value is. That said, it's still more than twice the net profit of a Starfruit when sold unprocessed.
Of course when you factor in making wine, starfruit and ancient fruit jump way ahead, particularly with artisan where even jelly is better.
She also sells it during the Desert Festival
Sure it sells for a lot, but if you want significant consistent production, you're having to turn basically half your harvest into seeds, which means they effectively sell for half the price it says they do. A field of irridum quality would be 6,000 apiece, but you're only getting about half that so 3,000 over 24 days is just 125 gold a day. It's not awful, but there's better options for profit.
I'm growing them for a full stack of iridium quality Sweet Gem berries. Then I'll probably never touch them again unless they can go into a machine eventually.
Wait…. ITS A WOMAN ?
I planted it just to show that I'm richπ
fun fact- me and my friends discovered that in multiplayer you only have to give the statue one sweet gem berry and everyone on the world can get a stardrop. you don't even need to be in the room when the berry is given lol
I'd say get one for seeds, then use said seeds to get the stardrop and sell for completion. Imo better to aim for ancient fruits or if you want a single-grow crop, starfruits
I find it financially dubious to shred a crop that is worth 3000 at minimum to get out 1-3 seeds that cost 1000 each to buy. Especially (but not only) if you plant them outside and wait for an entire year to get a return.
Even if you only use the cheaper bought seeds, they are not the greatest investment in year 1 because of how long it takes for them to yield any profit. Until late fall, the money you put into rare seeds is just dead capital that you could have put into other ventures that would have paid off several times over by the time you can harvest sweet gem berries.
My general advice if you want to be efficient: buy exactly 1 rare seed in year 1 late in summer for the stardrop, and spend your money in ways that pay off more quickly. However, they are not horrible money makers either, so if you don't care about minmaxing, feel free to grow them!
I did the math years back and blueberries are the best crop unless he's added something new to the game. The combo of fast regrowth after they mature and never needing to buy seeds again puts blueberries on top
