My husband and I loved it! There are definitely some home brew rules that I would implement. As you play, you’ll find that some of the rules don’t fit super well.
I’d definitely say older kids and up since there are so many layers to this game.
It’s similar to the game but condensed down. Like 2 hours per player. I play with my wife, kids aren’t interested.
Is this still able to be bought?
I haven’t heard good reviews, it seems overcomplicated and unbalanced for what they wanted to achieve. It LOOKS good, but definitely needs rules/mechanics/objective tweaks to reach its potential
Worth noting is that it’s designed by the game dev.
So, the game is advertised for older than 10, but bear in mind it is co-op. So long as an adult is managing the board state, it is not complicated at all. We play with our 8 year old, who was 6 when we first bought it, and he plays just fine. We just give him options and let him roll dice! Easy.
We love it in our house. Lots of luck involved, so not great if you dont like random elements (a common complaint on BGG), but its a really great faithful stardew game.
Lots of replayability, even when you know what cards might come up.
I have never known that Stardew valley had a board game
The board game got me into the video game! I would say it captures the spirit of Stardew Valley well. But it is probably for older kids with a bit more patience. I would say 10+ from Board Game Geek website sounds about right but your children’s mileage may vary. Takes up a decent bit of space and there are lots of things to keep track of pieces wise. It is a co-op game where all (up to 4 of you) are the farmer with different (jobs, like fishing, mining, farming etc.)
Goal is to complete the objectives (Grandpa’s goals and community center bundles) within the time limit (12 rounds?). The amount of bundles you need to complete can be house ruled/changed depending on the players’ board game experience.
If you like Stardew Valley, I can recommend the board game if you also like board games. If you like the digital aspect of it, the board game aspect might feel tedious if you with the different parts and pieces. Lot of small tiles means my cats will chew on everything and interfere with the game but it is fun to play with friends.
I think it would be difficult for little kids and they would probably not enjoy it. It’s quite tactical and requires a lot of planning. Definitely not an easy game but my girlfriend and I love it as is with no tweaks or modifications to the game.
