pretty sure you need a redstone engine or one of the gates (can’t remember which one) specifically, they can’t really be powered by other stuff afaik

It should produce the power needed to extract items, or at least it did in 1.7.10. The wooden pipes would just take some energy which the wooden/redstone engines would produce. Using the other engines would just maybe go faster I think? Either way it should.

All engines can be used to extract but it has to be pointing at a wooden pipe at the container that you want to extract from.
Edit: all the different engines do is change the amount of items that are pulled from the container.
