Stone -> Bedrock
Cobblestone -> Netherrack, End Stone
Wood -> Cactus
Sand -> Clay
(Sand texture is also used in the hotbar)
And probably many more which I don’t know

The old cactus texture was also the old oak log texture, but just tweaked to be green and prickly

Yes. Back in the day in versions without f3 coords, you could orient yourself in the world by looking at the L on the cobble and netherrack texture, useful for making nether corridors

I see it but I need to try really hard to see it, I used to just see it as like a red gravel type thing.
