Trip Wire Hook “Phantom Signal” Trick

I am trying to understand what I'm getting wrong about the tripwire hook – shape update thing but it's not working no matter what I try. Am i being trolled? I searched at least a dozen videos saying this works even to this day. What am I doing wrong?

    I think there are 2 different types of updates. I don’t remember the names of them.

    Observers detect 1 type of update, and BUD switches detect the other type. The reason you don’t notice the difference is because most things create both types of updates.

    So, I think you need a BUD not an observer.
