I was looking at the wiki and i realized something. Leo's birthday is on the same day as a garanteed storm day.
Both Summer 13 and 26 are always storm days: https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Weather
Leo's parents died in the shipwreck that brought him to Ginger Island. Most of the time, shipwrecks don't happen on bright sunny days, but during storms.
This would mean that, every year, Leo is reminded of the worst day of his life during the storm on his birthday.
I wonder if Concerned Ape decided to put Leo's birthday on the Summer 26 on purpose or was the storm day decided afterwards. In any case, it's really disturbing and depressing for poor Leo.

I think it could very well be more so he doesnt remember his bday anymore so celebrates it on the last day he remembers being with his family more or less compared to it landing no pun intended on storm days.
I’m not terribly sure of the details of Leo’s backstory, but is it possible to twist the knife a bit more by saying that the ship they were on was a birthday party cruise for him?
