I not only lost 14,300g from passing out (bc 5 monsters ganged up on me), I *ALSO* had the following options:

Buy back:

Gold ore – 425g

Insect head – 300g

Obsidian edge – 300g

I ended up spending 300g to get the insect head back (I am NOT paying 10,000g for that thing from the adventurer's guild) and had the choice of buying the Obsidian Edge (level 6 sword) or the Steel Falchion (a level 8 sword) for 9,000g each. I bought the Steel Falchion because it's ultimately a better sword.

I had to let the gold ore go…

In total, from losing and spending, I am out 23,600g in one day 😭😭😭 Not a huge dent in my currency overall, but still… ouch

EDIT: I know I could have started the day over in hindsight, but I forgot that was possible until after I saved the day… oops

I’d gladly pay marlon extra if he could find more of my stuff for me in one week 😭

Once you’ve slain 1000 monsters you can enter the back room of the adventurers guild. There’s something there that may make losing things and having to buy them back not hurt quite so much.

  3. Insect Head is a great early weapon, and you’ll eventually mine plenty of ore, so that was probably the right move.

Once I get down to the ice caves section I usually stick around there until I get a bone sword drop from a skeleton, it can easily carry you the rest of the way through the mines.

Don’t sweat it. Keep grinding. This loss feels big now but unless you’re doing some kind of speed run it’s all G

I read on the Stardew Valley wiki on The Mines History tab and 1.6: Added a Gold Slime that drops gold when killed. Raised maximum Death Penalty From 5,000g to 15,000g.
