  1. you use doors?
    just use platforms
    also solid house eww
    use more platforms
one solid block is all you need for suitable house
on floor not by the side (npc spawn is 3×3)

  2. Never had this issue, as long as an NPC is in their home they'll stay there for the night or any other time that isn't a clear day, either by sitting in their chair or standing under their banner, so unless it's different because I'm on console I don't understand the actual issue, they only move if they see an enemy.

  3. I just always trap them "upstairs".
I build the house off the ground, so i don't have any problems with the mobs and i can run under the house uninterrupted without issue.

  4. Eh I just make the base level of my base where I put all my crafting stuff and put the houses above it. Using platforms as a way to get up and down. Never usually an issue past the first night, even then just don't box yourself in w/ him.

  5. Or just get a magic mirror at the very beginning and instead of using doors, just have one-way hoiks out of your house, and magic mirror to get inside (use this for Hardcore, you're welcome)

  6. i always just put the doors on the second or third floor so i can exit above enemies, and should i not be able to get back in somehow, use the pylon to get back in

  7. The NPC AI definitely needs an update. They are really dumb. They should know to run from bosses and not walk into enemies.

  8. Or… you know… just build your houses wider…

It works 100% for me, if there is enough space between the table and chairs and the doors, then the NPCs will not feel threatened, and will remain in place.
