I know this house might look terrible, and I know I’m not much of a builder, which is why I’m here asking for advice

I’m on the second floor at the moment, and on the ground floor I’ve put up glass panels instead of fences

I like a sharper contrast between frame and wall so I always use spruce log with oak plank. I quite like how you’ve got the bits jutting out log cabin style. Windows are of course a must. And probably a darker material for the roof so it looks more balanced since right now the only dark thing is the log frame.

Bigger roof. Block variation. Color palettes. Texture. Maybe stone. Depth. Extra details outside. Smth like that.

Overhang your roof. This is the process of extending your roof out so it overhangs beyond your supports, instead of the supports being the predominant overhang.

This will solve two major problems at once for you. The first is the look of your place will be less rocket shaped. The second, this will extend your roof easily two tiles outward, which in turn, gives you two more tiles of internal space to work with, giving you a significantly less cramped second floor. Right now, your second floor is less a living space and more a coffin you can walk in lol.

Personally I’d toss another block or two into your palette, maybe dark oak or something for the roof and mabye a trim around the bottom of the walls

It is a very nice build tho great work!!

The house is really good, you just need to rebuild your roof so it’s LARGER than your ground floor dwelling, not smaller.

Adding a side wing with a roof balcony often does wonders. Use fence posts or blocks with ladders as the rim.

It helps to use different blocks for the roof than the walls, such as dark oak stairs.

I would make the wall flush with the support beams, and simply extend the roof as another commenter said.

If you make the house itself a bit bigger (add two/three blocks in all directions), you’ll have more space for windows. You can also create “flower pots” with dirt blocks you place trapdoors around, and decorate the exterior a bit.

As you build stuff around your base, try to make “lamp-posts” like the ones you find in villages, or something of your own design (I am fond of using lanterns instead of torches!), rather than just having torches on the ground.
