My castle is quite large but it’s all grey and boring

  1. I would add some plants, chandeliers, and rugs on the planks. Also, the 1-block deep spaces above those openings would make good spots for murals or some type of engraved design.

One thing is for sure, it needs color!

A gradient in the walls would help, change to lighter near the bottom (where the lights would be irl) and darker for the roof (where shadows/soot from torches would be)

Even if you keep the lights in the ceiling, the gradient will help the build keep visual interest

  3. You could break up those flat wall sections with some banners. And make proper torch holders.

Bomb it with TNT and make it a ruined castle!

Jokes aside; carpets, paintings, block variation. Just adding some tuff bricks or chisseled tuff blocks would help.

I like to think about how the build would work in real life. Real life castles, palaces, and manors were lived in and used. If you look at real life castle sets set up like they were in their prime, you’ll see decorations, carpets, etc. rather than just bare stone. If you were to keep it bare stone, some variation in texture (stone, chisled stone, cracked stone, maybe cobble, etc.) will help your eyes. But I would also recommend adding in banners/ dyed wool down the sides. Maybe try wool or paintings to resemble a tapestry. Also maybe try to introduce a darker wood type somehow. I would start by looking at pictures of real castles though and seeing if you can recreate their lived-in style interiors.

add a carpet, and add other blocks to make some gradient in the walls

Replacing the stone pillars with wood beams will break up the monotonous grey stone & diversify the visual texturing.

Add a few small details along the walls like plants or barrels or something

Animate corridors with copper golems walking and patrolling.
Parrots, bats, etc to add sound and movement.
As others have said, paintings, chandeliers , item frames to add atmosphere to the walls.

Carpets, banners, trapdoor, and maybe have some librarians wondering.
    Great castle though!!

  11. You could probably make some cracked stone bricks to break up the flat perfect brick texture you already have as well as using mossy bricks to add a tiny bit of color

  12. I’d add spaces you’d expect to see in any castle- torture chambers, map room, dueling courtyard, huge gardens, epic prison/dungeon, secret stairways to fun hidden wine cellars and game rooms, a throne room, trophies showcase, libraries etc

  13. Color!! If the walls aren’t a single block thick, consider having the “pillar” parts of the wall in an accent color. (Start building with double thick walls, floors and ceilings when you want different vibes in different areas, if you aren’t already.) Colored tile on the floors. Banners. Plants.

Chandeliers… some large tapestry. And rather than inset lights have hanging lanterns off the walls, and plants / topiaries

  15. Colours. I like making different rooms have unique wall, floor and ceiling designs.

Lecturns, candles, bookshelves. Lanterns hanging from chains. Iron grates or whatever they are called. Texturing with stone, cobblestone, black stone brick, etc.
