Giant crops don’t expire at the end of their seasons
It happened because you planted a big enough plot of them. One crop each season (and one special crop that can be planted in any season) can grow giant if planted in a field that’s at least a 3X3 square. That’s why the museum reward crop seeds are the way they are; it’s a hint to three of them.
