The Assimilator is a sentient nervous system tasked with hunting down pure creatures and assimilating them into the Crimson hivemind. They do this by grabbing their victim and gruesomely wriggling their nerve-like fingers into every orifice they can, hyjacking the victim's nervous system with electrical impulses, essentially rewiring the victim's mind to integrate it into the Crimson.
Also they use ichor as lube. Sorry.
