Remember, terraria will catch you slippin’ if you are sleepin
I use king slimes expert mode drop for the spiked slimes so I don’t have to deal with them, I can’t stand them 25:02
I’d like to give a special shoutout to Featherfall Potions, the most underrated potion in Terraria. The increase in vertical movement control it gives you is enormous. Seriously, mess around a bit with Featherfall next time you’re playing the game (preferably outside of Hardcore in case you make a mistake) and you’ll see how good they are.
Phoenix blaster glaze will never end
Why do you say dewet instead of dirt?
HOLY!
I was just thinking of trying Hardcore!
Thank you for a video!
just leave. Quite busted strat, now i gotta battle my brain to do it
The fact that my first character I created was mediumcore because I thought this game would be like Minecraft : if you’re playing with keep inventory, you’re cheating.
Pro tip: vilethorns are extremely effective against enemies that go through walls
I am here to shill mediumcore mode. Where dying goes from a mild inconvenience to punishing, but not as punishing as having to restart. If you are bad at the game like me but still want more stakes mediumcore is the answer. If you go into medium core and die a lot (skill issue) like me hardcore will likely feel very tedious. If you don't die a lot you're probably fine going into hardcore.
You can also do a pseudo mediumcore by just playing your new hardcore characters in the same world.
…What about Calming Potions with the Core 7? Battle Potions get a shoutout but not their counterpart? They only need Daybloom and Damselfish to craft alongside potion constant Bottled Water, it can be a part of the core 7 too! It used to be as effective as Peace Candles back in 1.3 but ever since 1.4.4 (Labor of Love), Calming Potions are the most effective items for reducing spawns and spawn-caps of enemies (39 and 40% respectively) versus Peace Candle (@ 23 & 30%) and Happy! from Sunflowers (@ 17 & 20%) in the game, if not accounting for the 200 NPC Limit exploit as well as other such exploits like your EoC stupid strat for Early Dungeon.
To be fair, Recalls, Magic/Ice Mirror, Potions of Return, Conches, Royale with cheese TP-ing or anything that TPs you around just eliminates all spawns anyway.
And also, to be fair (again), Harpies can easily juggle the player to death tho, it might also take a while to build a fishing spot in Sky Lakes for Damselfish, and Background Walls + Ease of Access to the fishing spot is needed for HM viability because Wyverns pass thru blocks. But if one has your fishing setup + optimizations (Fiberglass/Mechanic's Rods with Enchanted Nightcrawlers, Lightning Bugs, Buggies, Journeyman Bait as you said, Master Bait and other equivalents PLUS Tipsy from Ale/Sake [+5 FP], be careful as Tipsy reduces defense by 4 though, as well as sitting on a Chair [another +5 FP], alongside High Spirits [+0.1 Luck max, and considering the formula {100 * Luck Stat}% for FP, that's a 10% boost to FP], & MAYBE Garden Gnomes though Gnomes CAN easily stunlock the player inside Living Trees, and they aren't exactly easy to clear out) for EZ Desert fishing, surely one can catch large amounts of Damselfish quite easily. I caught like 3 Damselfish with 1 bait from my current playthrough tho, is that good or not…?
I am pretty sure they are an "Uncommon" fish though, so Calming Potions might be fewer to craft overall, but their 12 minute base duration (even w/o Alchemical Enchantment from Alchemy Flask post-Skeletron or Dungeon cheese) helps to close the gap of their obtainability (Praise 1.4.4). That's 2 minutes longer than Dangersense, btw.
Oh yeah. Alchemical Enchantment post-Dungeon is also really good, that thing obtained from an Alchemy Flask gotten by Shimmering an Alchemy Table buffs all potion durations by 20% on top of Alchemy Table's thing, at least according to the wiki. Literally just a free upgrade, yeah?

I have only played 3 classic hardcore runs and in every single one of them i died getting hellstone
1:04:10 Small tip to help with this: in 1.4.4 they significantly increased the despawn timer for plantera before she comes on your screen for the first time, so if you break a bulb and immediately teleport away, and your arena is in the underground jungle, it will probably be close enough for her to come to you without the effort/risk of luring her there directly. Plus, because 1.4.5 made pylons work during bossfights, you don't even need to set your spawn in the arena to do this: you can just recall to spawn, then use pylons to get back to your arena and wait for her to show up.
The only use for mediumcore is to prepare you for hardcore. It puts actual consequences for death meaning having to either regrind your gear or suffer deathloops getting your old gear back. It conditions you to be more careful about death and avoid unnecessary risks or rushing bosses.
It’s literally just training. And nobody needs it.
9:58 black mothers are dangerous, got it
Hey, wait- I play Mediumcore!
25:29 no joke, I lost a good run to being dumb, that contact damage is no joke
Don't think I'll ever play hardcore but I'll watch anyways.
Sick trickshot at 46:15
I never played hardcore because playing it's super safe seems like it just make it more tedious then hard although medium core might be for the masochist.
Also
Do not ride underground minecart tracks or do it with trap in hand and in slow speed with pressing shift for torch (easier to just not ride it). There is sometimes pressure plates on rails with usually explosives underneath. Died countless times(not in hardcore tho) and then stop riding that.
In addition to ice bats, ice slimes, medusas there is stone slimes now exists. If you get stucked with that slime you are probably stunlocked to death. Happened to me in hardcore and I couldn't recall for 5 seconds spamming mouse button. You can still get the timing to recall with potion but if there is other mobs that can reach you that's just deadly.
Empress of light follows you if you recall just like queen bee with one little difference. It teleports above you at that exact moment you press recall so you have no time to heal or do anything. Even when you recall underground she still follows you.
Do not use your fishing loadout(fisman armor) in hardmode or do it near npcs, also do not use afk fishing mods, because if blood moon happens you are dead.
In general do not afk on farms even if they are afkable. Possible mistake in building may able biome mimic or other things spawn.
Corrupted or hallowed ice bioms contains pigrons. Do not go here without hunter potions.
Avoid martians. Martian saucers is not a joke at all.
If you play only summoner, do not rely on your minions too much. Died to a spiked jungle slime because I decided that my flinxes are enough and I can just drink water while they do "their work" to keep me safe.
In one and only truly hardcore playthrough NEVER cross a road on red lights.
27:07 Another tactic to collect biome chest loot safely is going into the dungeon before you kill plantera and wiring up teleporters from the chests you want to the outside of the dungeon. As soon as you beat plantera, you can teleport in, grab the loot, and get out. Ideally do this under the holy protection buff (with cross necklace) in case a skeleton sniper spawns in the 0.5 seconds this takes, you can activate the buff safely by hitting a target dummy.
For vampire knives, I'd say all this is worth the effort – with a bit of defense they make empress of light almost completely free, letting you remove fishron from the suggested route (big risk reduction) and still have strong options for cultist, pillars, and moon lord.
Watching it knowing damn well I'm never playing hardcore mode
This is just sorbet tuning down the masochism
38:41 I KNOW RIGHT?
Why did they change it? I want to summon BoC after reaching hardmode for that Brain of Confusion, but I have to make an artificial biome wait for natural spawns now instead of just running around and converting mushrooms. WHY.
