Started playing minecraft recently again and for the first time I created a kubejs script, that changes the earlygame to create a much tighter bottle neck around metals, so it basically extends the early game by a lot and makes it much more intense without adding any new blocks or mechanics.

I tested it several times with different generated worlds and at least for me, it made the game so much more fun. Anyways, heres the changes:

no punching logs or stone – no wooden tools (ofc)

stone tools can be crafted without a crafting table in a 2×2 grid from flint instead of cobble stone

sticks, strings, flints -> earlygame tools

strings can be crafted from flint and sugarcane/bamboo/wool

campfires need can be craftted without crafting table from 4 sticks and need to be ignated with more sticks – can now cook clay into a brick

crafting table now requires 2 cobblesone and 2 planks

primitive furnace can be crafted from 8 brick blocks and can smelt copper only – cooking food or wood in primitive furnace will create charcoal

copper tools, weapons and armor can be crafted with crafting table and are needed to get iron

tools, weapons, armor made from iron, gold or diamond, can only be crafted using an anvil (or a crafting table, if an anvil is attached to it)

furnace can be crafted from a primitive furnace, 5 brick blocks and 3 copper blocks – works like a regular furnace and can smelt everything else – except turning food into charcoal as well

  1. Have you tried TerraFirmaCraft? It implements similar ideas very elegantly, though more intense. (It does operate as a large overhaul of the game as a whole, so there may be interest in a less invasive version.)
