there are three ways to fish in lava: the hotline pole, which only drops from the angler quests with a 1/75 chance, and only after completing 25 quests, the lava proof fishhook, which can be obtained from obsidian and hellstone crates, and using bait caught in the underworld, i.e. lava snails, lavafly, hell butterfly. Of these, the pole is the most convenient but easily the hardest, and since obsidian crates are caught in lava anyway, its best and easiest to just use lavaproof bait til you get more convenient methods.
