A Tier List of Every Stardew Valley Mastery Reward
since the Mastery system gives you a choice of which skill to go with first there Comes The Dilemma which do you choose and in what order and I’ll always say it comes down to the individual player if you really like fishing of course go for fishing if you only farm for your money go with the farming one but there’s a little more to talk about there each skill has three different rewards you get and each of them are useful or not useful even within the same skill so I thought I’d go and set them all on a tier list individually so you can get an idea of what the individual rewards are starting with farming we have the aridium Scythe even though it’s the very first one we’re going over I got to say it’s one of the best rewards in the entire thing because almost everyone’s going to farm it’s the best existing way to get money in the game and it makes harvesting your crops about five times probably more faster it’s got to go into the S tier the statue of blessings on the other hand so I’ve had a couple of people say that it actually was very useful for them I think it has Niche uses but most of the time you’re going to hit it see what buff you get and then not engage in that buff because it’s not applicable to what you’re doing in that day or it’s just not a good buff like if you get granted infinite energy does that really matter especially if you have a lot of the stardrops and you’re late enough in the game to have the statue of blessings I think I’m going to put it in see because it can have some uses it’s not completely useless but it heavily depends on luck and now the golden animal crackers so these double the amount of items that your animals will drop this includes any animal in the Cooper Barn excluding pigs and fish ponds so extremely powerful I mean it makes animals twice as good as they were before the thing is I think the only thing holding it back is that it’s so rare there’s not really a super easy way to farm them out I think the best way would probably be golden fishing treasure chests which requires the fishing Mastery otherwise you have the regular fishing treasure chests I’m going to put it in a because even though it’s very powerful it’s not likely that you’re going to get a ton by the time that you’ve finished the game next up we’re dipping into mining Mastery with the heavy furnace this is a recipe that pretty much replaces the existing furnaces you have to put in enough ore to get five bars at once but it only takes three coal and you have a 50% chance of getting a Sixth bar which is useful no matter what thing is it can be you can get this at any point if you’ve been stockpiling all of your ore you can leave this for last and you’ll be just fine you’ll build a couple of heavy furnaces and then you’re set you’re done so there’s not really a reason to go for it early on and you know this is assuming that once you get to the point where you’re getting mastery that you’re probably set on bars I know that’s not 100% but that’s you know my personal play style I’m going to put it in B cuz it’s undoubtedly useful but you can push it off next is the statue of the dwarf King once again this is undoubtedly useful I’d say that its bonuses are better than what the statue of blessings gives you because it’s very focused on mining and they’re way better than just the overall kind of random ones like the stat of blessings can give you three easier fish to catch meanwhile the statue of the dwarf King for the entire day gives you an extra ore from ore nodes which will increase the amount of ores you get either by 25% or 20% depending on what your professions are which is a huge bonus that can earn you tons of money that alongside the fact that you get the choice between two of the bonuses it can give you makes it a lot more consistent than the statue of blessings as well I think I’m also going to put this in B and then we have the diamond here which represents doubling the gems that you get from gem bearing rocks and that’s not a percentage chance that is all of the time I I think I’m also going to put it at B just because you have to be mining to get benefit from it even if you’re Mining and you’re not going for Gem bearing rocks cuz you just don’t care about it you’re not getting any benefit it’s something that you kind of have to go out of your way for and then if you want to make like proper profit from all the diamonds you’ve gotten or something you need toap swap your professions to minerology it’s kind of a pain but it’s still very useful so B it is that that’s a straight B for all of the mining recipes honestly I think that mining is one of the weakest of all of them but they’re just they’re solid next for foraging we have the Mystic tree seed recipe which grows a Mystic tree that can be tapped for Mystic syrup the Mystic syrup is kind of the most important part of it the tree seed on its own if we’re not bringing in the Treasure totem like it is required for the treasure totem but I’m just going to rate it on its own is not that big of a deal I don’t think many people are tapping their trees to make profit the Mystic syrup also has another use that can be ingested for lots of energy but again you’re you got to consider this is a late game you probably have food you have other money-making resources the Mystic tree doesn’t do anything better than what other things already do if that makes any sense the treasure totem on the other hand I found so much use for this first of all it gave me a ton of coal to work with so I could actually make use of the heavy furnace it gave me a ton of other crafting resources such as clay so I never had to worry about that and it is so good for finally finishing out the museum in a timely manner this may be controversial I think it goes in a personally I just it’s okay in my personal playthrough you know I unlocked all the masteries of course treasure totem is probably the one that I came back to the most other than the aridium Scythe of course but like treasure totem I just used it constantly golden mystery boxes so even though these might not be the craziest thing in the game the thing is you can find them while doing anything fishing mining combat especially even just cutting down trees you have a 6% chance to get a box every single time you hit a tree with an axe and so they’re just they’re pretty common and that can make them actually pretty impactful no matter what you decide to do with your time I’m going to put it in s so now we’re going into fishing Mastery which may be a little less wanted than some of the other masteries I know fishing isn’t the most popular thing in the game I love fishing personally I’m going to rate these on the scale of someone who likes fishing if you don’t like fishing uh don’t get it I guess that’s that’s the easiest way I could say it so first we have the advanced aridium Rod all it does is allow you to equip a second bobber in addition to the one that the idium rod gives you this enables a lot like you can make a super easy fishing setup with double cork Bobbers you can get a super efficient fishing setup with like a deluxe spinner and a quality bobber there’s a lot of ways you can build it and I think it’s really fun to play around with and it’s one of the things that makes fishing genuinely good in the late game so I’m going to put it in I’m going to put it in B because it’s not the Highlight because the Highlight is the challenge bait challenge bait allows you to catch three fish at the same time as long as you get a perfect catch each time the fish leaves the bar you get one less fish if it leaves the bar three times then you don’t get the fish at all so it really finally something to reward some of the better Fishers in the game it’s got to go a because the amount of money that you can make from utilizing challenge bait alongside you know a quality bobber or something like that is it’s a lot you can easily earn about 60 to 70,000 gold a day with this which is only rivaled by having like a huge farming setup it is the best Money Maker in the game if you you ignore crops and then I have the uh this little golden bobber here which represents the chance to get golden fishing treasure chests uh I’ll be honest I didn’t even notice it like it it happens 25% of the time unless you have a build that’s specifically shooting for fishing treasure chests I don’t think it’s that big of a deal there’s a couple of things that they can get like it it’s very similar to the golden Mystery Box except you’re not going to be getting golden fishing treasure chests at near nearly as much not even close in that and I think the items aren’t as good because you get a lot of like basic Resources with it as well like you can get copper or in these you’re not going to get that in Golden mystery box I’m going to put it in D because it was it was not what I got fishing Mastery of it was just like oh it came with it finally we’re moving on to the combat Mastery this fish egg or this frog egg represents the chance to get trinkets you can now get trinkets which is an extra equipment slot where you can get all sorts of like wacky effects you can have followers like this frog egg has a frog follow you not all the followers are good I will say that personally even in fact I like the Frog aesthetically I hate bringing it alongside me because what the frog will do is it’ll eat any enemies that come near you and it’ll be chewing for a while and then it’ll eat once it’s done chewing again thing is you don’t get any of the drops from whatever monster was nearby so unless you like need the Frog to survive it’s not benefiting you in any way and that’s kind of an issue that quite a few of the trinkets have the Bas basilisk paw makes you immune to debuffs which you could already do in the base game anyway the uh Golden Spur gives you a speed boost if you get a critical hit which is a very specific type of build so there’s a couple that like just don’t come into play the ones that I’d say are probably on the higher end are the ice rod which freezes enemies allowing you to kill them easier the fairy box which gives you a little healing fairy to follow you around the magic quiver which shoots arrows dealing damage of course that can throw off my rhythm sometimes but it’s not a huge big deal but the big one is the parot egg the parot egg makes you money depending on how powerful the par egg is it gives you an increasing chance to get 250 gold every time you knock out an enemy and I believe that chance maxes out at 40% so if you have a 40% chance to get 250 gold from an enemy and this chance is repeating you you have it if you get the first 40% it’s going to roll another 40% and see if you get another gold coin so on and so forth you have you will get around 166.25 dust Sprites and boom you’ve made about 1,000 gold it’s pretty powerful it’s a big deal I’m going to and you know the most important part it’s fun it’s really fun to have these little extra slots where you can have a follower come like follow behind you I’m going to put it in a and I wanted to talk about that first so that we could talk about the Anvil what the Anvil does is it allows you to roll the stats on some of those so like the parrot I was talking about that can be like super powerful it doesn’t always come at level four you need to upgrade it or just get lucky to get it my main issue with the Anvil is it doesn’t always upgrade your stats it just randomizes it so you could randomly roll something worse than what you already had and every time you roll it’s at the cost of three iridium bars that’s expensive I personally wish if it was at the price of three iridium bars you should be upgrading them every single time it should always be an upgrade but it’s not when I got my first parot egg I think I had to roll it around 12 times to finally get the level four parrot pricey I’m going to I’m it in B cuz it’s a necessary thing to have but it sucks the Anvil I’m so torn on Mini Forge I’m going be honest it’s I think it’s neat it’s it’s a novelty you know I I feel like I have to put it in D because of that it’s a novelty at most it’s the forge isn’t one of the things that you use a lot in the game by the time you’ve unlocked all the masteries you probably already Enchanted a tool or two so it’s not like you’re going to be going back there a million times it’s a very expensive crafting recipe it takes five D Dragon Teeth 10 iron bars 10 gold bars and five aridium bars that price is not worth it in my eyes I’d rather just walk a little bit to the forge every time I want to use it which is like five times in an entire playthrough honestly it just becomes like okay it’s another thing I have to craft for Perfection so I think I’m going to put that one in F so I guess looking at my own ratings here there’s like a pretty even split high to low and you know what now I’m thinking about it considering these two were things that I like didn’t even notice I think I’m going to bup up the Mystic tree to see because it is useful it’s just it’s not beating out other methods these I actively like just did not notice I think that’s going to be the difference between C and D so that’s like how I kind of rate everything you may agree you may disagree you know if you don’t like combat you’re probably not going to find nearly as many golden mystery boxes so maybe that’s not important if you’re doing a no farming run you know who cares about the aridium Scythe but this rating feels right also I haven’t rated them in each tier they’re just there just whatever I put there first and I don’t think there’s any importance to like clarifying oh the froggy beaks the challenge bit yeah no doesn’t make any sense so those are my overall ideas and if you were going to ask me what do you choose first I’m going to say whatever skill you enjoyed using the most first of all but if you don’t have a specific skill that you enjoy the most probably forging because it’s going to benefit you no matter what because of the golden mystery boxes and I think in general most players will probably want to improve their farming so the idium scythe and the animal cracker are pretty big grabs on that end and then you know the statue of blessing even though it’s not crazy good you know I just check it every once in a while it does also benefit other skills like fishing and Mining everything else is a person byerson basis and those are my thoughts and I’m sticking with it thank you for watching I’ll see you in the next one and good night [Music]
I’ve been asked quite a bit which mastery reward should be the first to unlock, and my answer has always been that it depends on the person. But if you need a bit more than that, I’m taking a quick look at all of them, their pros, their cons, to see how they stack up against each other!
I’m still working on the full guides for them, I suppose you could call this an intermission of sorts!

Thank you guys 🍒🧡
Hello
Mastery is so quick that it almost doesn’t matter the order in my eyes.
Having a tiny frog companion will always be best in my heart
Pin
Great to have a good photo of you , we will plaster it everywhere , you,ll never get a job ! 👅💋
I like fish 👍
Mining gang!!!! also heavy furnaces are absolutely broken with iridium and statue of dwarf +1 ore per node is going to make SC runs crazy money
I can't do without the iridium sychte as if it was always there and the trinkets add too much to game, great vid sal !!
I got the fishing mastery after I had already caught all the fish. I was excited to use it for the Qi extended family quest but I had a full inventory when I claimed the mastery and never got the rod 😅
I was excited by the golden cracker, until I realised that giving it to my chicken was just the same as… hatching another chicken. For the most part, I could have just bought another animal – for how rare the golden cracker is.
Syrup from Mystic tree became one of my favourite things 'cause you can trade it one for one for fairy dust at the raccoon fam. I personally find it very useful, even if it's pretty lategame.
EDIT: the forge in F-Tier is extremely warranted imo. You gotta go to the volcano for shards anyways, so might as well go to level 10 which doesn't take a whole lot of time. The Forge is the worst mastery reward imo. (Also, ConcernedApe allow us to dupe Cinder Shards in Crystalariums pls, thx)
Quick note about the animal cracker. I got 4 in spring year 2 on one single day of fishing, but I do not have fishing mastery yet. It was raining, and although a good luck day I needed catfish.
In other words, can be found in regular fishing chests, and mystery boxes
Edit: the furnace deserves A tier because you can smelt an entire stack in no time
You should do a tier list of your different tier list videos.
Great list! I think the mystic syrup is definitely useful, I've been mostly using it to craft blue grass starters and treasue totems!
I took fishing mastery first just for the advanced iridium rod. I really struggle with the harder fish and having bait and two tackles helped.
Controversial take: the Iridium Scythe isn't as good as it seems. Sure, it allows you to gather crops faster in real time, BUT! in game time, you actually loose time – especially with single grow crops. Time stops when you gather by hand and plant a new seed – which is huge on mega farms. Even with multiple grow crops, gathering by hand still saves you in game time.
i was just thinking i need a new 15 minute salmence video!!!
Always love your videos Sal. 🙂
I never knew you could use fairy dust on tappers! Wish I'd known that sooner. 🤦♀️
The golden animal crackers actually do work with fish ponds. 🙂 I heard about it on the Reddit group not long after 1.6 dropped, and I've got a bunch of lava eel ponds with animal crackers added on one of my playthroughs. 😀
I can't believe he put Heavy Furnace on B, it's like the most useful thing after Iridium Scythe – it saves so much time (especially on skull caverns dives) – instead of taking like 10 seconds every time to smelt or collect 25 bars they make that you spend like 2-3 seconds instead. And it saves so MUCH space – no more dedicating sheds for only furnaces, which is crucial in my opinion.
Maybe for casual players it's not that useful, but for more experienced players it's really-really great. Every time I've finished my skull caverns dives I've blessed Concerned Ape for adding them.
Doesn't the iridium scythe NOT give you the quality bonuses you would normally get when you harvest normally?
Spoilers:
Treasure totem gives golden coconuts
Which will help finish the island field office
Which gives OSTRITCHE INCUBATOR FINALLY
A quick note.
With the addition of golden animal crackers and golden treasure chests; the pirate profession is substantially better and the most reliable way to farm for crackers.
I thought the animal cracker did work on fish ponds?
In defense of the Statue of Blessings, if you get it before doing a lot of endgame content, it can be really fun! I'm currently playing with a bunch of hard mods so I'm deep into year 2 and still haven't finished the community center and am strapped for cash a lot, but I have gotten farming mastery! So the buffs the statue gives are still useful to me. But I agree that if you are too far into the endgame then the statue isn't really that useful.
The statue of blessings was super helpful to me as a very poor fisher, I used the fishing blessing to get the Mutant Carp and the Lava Eel
I would like to offer a different perspective on the Mystic Tree/Syrup: for me, it isn't so much for profit.
It can be used as your emergency rations for Skull Cavern deep dives if you still need to do them, whether that's for restocking iridium reserves or getting those elusive Auto Petters.
Granted, it does produce syrup slowly, once every 7 days (3-4 with a Heavy Tapper), but this is probably one of the laziest "full heal" items you can get your hands on (or if you don't have a stockpile of purple shrooms for Life Elixirs). It also requires like….no real maintenance beyond the initial setup. Just check it occasionally when your staircase Jades are done duping, get your supplies ready for a good luck day, and dive to your heart's content with little fear of death.
Frog egg is good for skull caverns because it kills Mummies and those invincible bugs if you somehow don't have explosive ammo or bombs with you.
The treasure totem is straight up S Tier. Use it on Ginger Island during the Qi Crops Quest and you never have to worry about Qi Beans anymore
my hot take on this is, the iridium scythe all but makes junimo hits obsolete, hear me out, even with a large field the scythe lets you harvest the entire thing in a very short time period, junimo huts take up space and can be annoying to work with, some days the harvest when you dont want them to, and they can be a pain to set up to be aesthetically pleasing sometimes
A tip for those who don't all the clutter coming out of the (golden) mystery boxes: you can also trade them for magic rock candy.
PPL sub 1 hr
My Argument for the Mystic Tree is it a Cheaper and More Passive way to get Fairy Dust which is the main value for it in my eyes
1:49 actually fish ponds are affected
Assuming you are playing 100% unmodded and you don't really "specialize" at all, IMO this would be the order to get them:
1a. Farming – Iridium Scythe is too good for improving harvest speed and the animal cracker just doubles animal money, it's a no brainer. The scythe loses a lot of power if you play with stuff like the Tractor mod or use a ton of Junimo Huts though.
1b. Foraging – All 3 are great. The boxes just give you more good stuff that you will use, the trees are great, especially when combined with the Mushroom Logs, and the Treasure Totem is so good if you still need things from Artifact Spots. I could easily see arguments for making Foraging your first, especially if you do use Junimo Huts for your farm (or as said earlier, use the Tractor mod). You really can't go wrong with either or. I would definitely recommend both for your first two masteries.
2. Mining – Coal is always a bottleneck and this helps to alleviate that headache, not just with the heavy forge, but with the dwarf king statue too. Both are really good for mining. The bonus gems is very meh by the time you have mastery. Even double diamonds isn't that big a deal. Unless you've stopped mining completely, I would take Mining third (possibly even second) just for the boost to coal and/or ores.
3. Fishing – #1 if you love to fish, but otherwise it's alright. As someone who relatively doesn't like fishing, I'm kinda sad there's no Crab Pot benefit in the Fishing Mastery. The double-tackle rod is neat, but something you don't actively use that much if you don't go nuts for fishing.
4. Combat – The mini-forge is basically useless (small QoL buff so you don't have to go to the actual forge), the anvil does nothing on its own and is just for trinkets. That said, trinkets are "fun", but I didn't really find any of them to be too useful. The amount of money you get from the parrot isn't that huge by the time you're doing Mastery unlocks. Don't get me wrong, it's nice, but it's relatively small. I ended up going with the Fairy just so I could bother less watching my HP, which was nice, but not nearly as impactful as the other masteries IMO.
Of course, YMMV, but this is my recommendation if you're kinda lost.
The Iridium Scythe is game changing for me honestly. Its such a great quality of life upgrade.
