Somehow, after opening the video and stopping it on the 1st second, i immediately switched into thinking I'm halfway through some new challenge playthrough video, looked at the inventory and thought "wait, how the hell does he have rod of harmony already? Oh right, shimmer, vanilla. But wait, did he really farm for rod of discord completely offscreen, i don't recall seeing him get it… anyway", continued watching and only then realized what was going on

Why not just dig out a massive ditch down to just above hell and let the ocean flow into that, then calculate the number of buckets based on the block volume needed to contain that water?
Just run a few hellevators side by side and then cap off right before the evaporation depth
