In my case, what worked was cutting the PNGs directly from the zip file, without unzipping the folder; then creating a folder in Portraiture called SDS and pasting the compressed PNGs there. I enter the game, press ''O" on the virtual keyboard to fix the portraits and that's it.
It's important to have the same keyboard that you have, because I used the virtual keyboard that came by default, and it never appeared when I talked to an NPC. Thanks to the change of virtual keyboard, a bug I had was also solved, which was that the start screen with the Concernedape logo did not appear And there was no option to continue where I left off. But the new virtual keyboard solved all my problems.
