What’s Terraria Like on Nintendo Switch?
With the release of the Nintendo Switch 2, I figured I’d try to beat Terraria on the original switch. I’ve never played the game anything other than PC and can’t fathom how it’s even playable without mouse and keyboard but here we are, the ultimate challenge. Mad respect to anyone who mains Terraria on Switch.

Havenβt watched the video yet but fun fact is I beat terraria for the first time on switch (atleast beat moonlord) I Techinally beat it on android a long time ago when ocram was still a thing
finally someone playing terraria on switch for once
– Just had my laptop in the shop… While it was on the bench, I resorted to using my tablet for all my usual electronic entertainment purposes. Mobile Terraria gave me several of the same problems you encountered with the Switch Edition. I also ran Journey because I only ever use a controller for playing my MegaMan Battle Network Collection. Oh, and I have Super Mario Sunshine too, but that's a different controller altogether. And learning all the button combos and stuff was really challenging. Was JUST get getting used to building interesting structures with that ghost inventory up yesterday. Got the call just before they closed (5 minutes, when I live 10-15 minutes away) that they were done with the repairs. It's definitely a learning-curve that I can empathize with at this particular time.
– In other news, I like to play Journey mode as a bit of a puzzle-ish game. Where I CAN NOT use ANY thing (even coins), unless it has been fully researched first in-game. If it has anything in the tooltip saying "research # to unlock…" I research it immediately. Easy enough on tools; research what you get, dupe them back up, carry on. But gets a little more challenging when you have to collect 100 palm wood, 5 of any of the tree fruits, or when you decide to fight your first boss.
For example, it takes 3 boss bags to be fully researched, and it takes 3 suspicious eyes to unlock that; and you need to get 50 lens-es, before you can craft your own. If you want to get your hearts up, you need to find 20 first. Etc. It's not super hard, but it front-loads the grind for you, so you still feel the progress, but makes it easier to focus on building, and/or controls at the back end of the research. π
– Yeah! YEAH that stupid wind sound IS cracked! (cranked). I had the volume on Mobile down to 15% for music, 25% for sound effects, and like %5 or 10% for AMBIENCE, JUST SO I COULD EVEN HEAR YOUTUBE running as a background app.
0:51 yep, that's the most relatable thing when you played Playstation or PC games (with controller) so much, then jump straight to Nintendo consoles ππ
7:32 genuinely a skill issue. Then again, I've played every console release of terraia since the first one. I bet if I tried PC I'd have similar problems that you're having though
Playing Terraria on switch is the only way I can play meaning I wouldn't know any other way to play and I don't have any other devices I can play it on
I've been playing Terraria since 1.3 and that's been exclusively on consoles and mobile. I own it on PSN and Switch and am currently on an X-Box run thanks to Game Pass.
I think it's a solid experience that hasn't stopped me from putting over a thousand hours into the game. controls might seem finicky, but, they're more than efficient.
also, lol, I barely ever use lock on – that's what your right analog stick is for.
I've played terraria in every device (console 3ds switch mobile pc) and by far switch is the worst there was a bug in 1.3 where if u were attacking and opened ur inventory it would delete ur weapon ππ
Wait… so the switch terraria interface is just the mobile interface?
I can 100% tell he has touched a controller maybe twice ever.
You should try mobile next, I think its a nice middle ground between keyboard and switch movement and ease of access to play as the touchscreen is very helpful
Do I use gem Robes?! Ppft yes. $hadpwWizardMoneyGang
Really like the title change. This one really caught my attention and described the video very well!!!
Try mobile Terraria next!!
This made me feel so good about playing on consoleπ
I have a Switch Controller and decided to connect it to my Mobile. The cross hair, i think even with max sensitivity, felt quite slow compared to how I'd normally play on mobile. The amount of buttons in terraria compared to the buttons on the controller were also a bit difficult to map as well
i cant play without my keyboard now. used to play on xbox 360 tho
Its not too bad. Definitely have to customize the controls to your liking. Also sorta feels like you need another one or two buttons for things like quick buffing and quick mana.
As someone with 920 hours on terraria on switch I can say you do eventually get extremely used to the controls
Also A tip I could give is when trying to manually aim you smart cursors you can quickly switch back-and-forth of either side of your person at much more precise angles
As someone who has played android terraria with an xbox controller, you do get used to it but it is quite strange…
Shi i beat the game with all classes then switch to expert mode beat that switched to master mode summer got brutally shit on by moon lord
37:14 "It's slowly getting hard"
THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID
I bought terraria on the switch for my son. I struggled with the controls.
