18 Things you Forget to do in Stardew Valley! (1.6)

What’s up YouTube? Trashy here and we are back with a video that I had been thinking about making for a while but I just kept forgetting about which is ironic given the topic because today’s video is about all of the things that we forget to do in Stardw Valley and maybe a few tips here and there to help you remember them. Stardew Valley is a big game. Even I forget stuff all the time and I’m approaching a thousand hours played on PC plus the hundreds of hours that I put into my Switch farm. So, I’ve compiled a list of the things and features that I often forget and that you often forget. I asked you all in a post a few weeks ago, what are some things that you just can’t seem to remember to do? And you gave some pretty good responses. Before we start though, you know what’s coming. There is no wrong way to play Stardy Valley. Even if you forget to feed your animals every day or constantly forget that the minecart can be used as a shortcut. It’s fine. You’re not playing it wrong. You’re just giving yourself a challenge, and that’s okay. Also, spoiler warning. We will be talking about some late game features in this video, so definitely watch at your own discretion. So, let’s jump right into it. Now, I have a long list of forgettables, but some of these may or may not apply to you. If I’ve missed anything that you always forget, let me know in the comments, and maybe we’ll do like a 2.0 version of this video. So, I feel like the most easily forgotten thing in Stardy Valley is people’s birthdays, as some of you have brought up in the comments. And I am also super guilty of this. In fact, I forget to give gifts to villagers in general all the time. To try and combat this, I like to buy a calendar from Robin as soon as possible and include checking it in my morning routine so I don’t miss any birthdays or events. To remember to check the calendar because I also forget to check the calendar. You can place a sign next to your door that you’ll see when you’re leaving the house reminding you to check the calendar. Also, to help me remember to give out gifts every week, I place a large chest with liked and loved items near the exit of my farm with a sign that says gifts on it. So, when I walk by it on the way to town, I see the sign, remember to grab some gifts, and I’m good for the day. The next one is one that I personally always forget. I am constantly using all of my energy without paying attention and then having to deal with the exhaustion debuff the next day, especially early on in the game. Well, it turns out that Harvey’s Clinic sells muscle remedy, which cures exhaustion. If you’re mid or late game and have plenty of food, exhaustion doesn’t really matter much, but in early game, waking up the next day with 50% less energy can be a real pain. You can stock up on a couple of these and keep them handy for days where you’ve been mining a bit too much and need to be on your feet early in the morning. This does not negate the effects of going to bed late, though. Keep in mind that you will get less energy restoration the later you go to sleep, starting at 12:10 a.m. Speaking of energy, remember that the mountain spa exists for a reason. You can recover energy, albeit quite slowly, by just chilling in the spa waters. And this is something that I always forget to take advantage of. Another thing that I regularly forget to do is to make the most of speed boosts from coffee. Make sure to carry a few on you. They’re really not that expensive to buy from Gus and you can also easily make them. Also, remember that your horse exists. I ashamedly forget that my horse is there all the time and walk everywhere like a nerd. I also regularly forget to use the minecart system leading to more than one useless trip to Clint. Which brings me to my next point. How often have you made it to Clint just in time to realize that you forgot the bars that you needed to upgrade your tool? How often do you head out to the mines to start your day and realize too late that you’ve forgotten your food or even your sword at home? I sound a little bit like a TV advert. Well, right now for the cheap cheap price of 50 wood a piece, you can smack down chests almost anywhere you want around the valley and never leave an item behind again. But for real though, you can plop chests down outside of Clint and store some bars in there for future upgrades or maybe keep one inside the entrance to the mine stocked with food and a spare sword. You can also buy an extra fishing rod from Willie and leave them at the beach, in the mountains, or on Ginger Island so that you never forget to fish again. If you have a willing friend, you can add them temporarily to your farm in multiplayer. Have them drop their tools in a chest, and then you’ll have extra tools to leave at spots where you might forget to bring them, like a pickaxe at the mines or an extra watering can on Ginger Island. There’s nothing worse than getting close to perfection to only realize that you’re missing a few specific recipes from Queen of the Sauce. You’ll need to remember that it airs every single Sunday with reruns of old recipes airing on Wednesdays. Getting into the habit of checking your TV every day when you wake up is a great way to avoid missing recipes. If you struggle to remember to check your TV, use the same trick as the calendar. Just place down a sign to remind yourself. If it’s a lost cause, you can keep an eye out for the book seller. They can stock the Queen of the Sauce recipe book after you found 100 golden walnuts on Ginger Island, and it has all of the recipes, including ones that haven’t aired yet. If you’re looking for a guide on how to find all of the walnuts on Ginger Island, you can check out this video here, which should be on the screen or in the description below. On Sundays, the Desert Trader sells staircases for jades. And this is something that a lot of people forget to go and do. If you can get into the habit of checking your TV every day, like we just said, make sure to make a mental note that Queen of the Sauce days, which are Sundays, are also jade trading days. If you can associate these two things in your mind, it might make it a lot easier to remember to go and trade in your jades for staircases. I always remember way too late in my run that Robin and Clint sell important resources like wood, ores, and coal at decently cheap prices during your first year. I say cheap simply because the prices go up so much in year 2. If you have some extra cash at the end of year 1 and want to put it towards something useful, it can be worth taking a look at Robin and Clint stock. You can stock up on wooden stone for crafting or ores for smelting, to upgrade your tools, whatever you prefer. One of the hardest things to remember in Stardew Valley is which fish spawn where and at what times. The easiest way to solve this, of course, is to keep the wiki by your side at all times, and eventually you start to remember the fish spawns out of habit. But if you don’t want to rely on the wiki, maybe more signs could help. When you go fishing, bring some signs with you. Not the text signs, though, the image signs. Every time you catch a fish, put down a sign and put the fish on the sign. You can swap them out with different fish as the season changes. Keep a little reminder near your fishing spots, whatever you want. But this might make it easier to keep track of which fish spawn where. Now, of course, this does not account for the times of day and the weather in which you can catch certain fish. But it’s a start, maybe. It’s not always easy to remember to pet your animals, especially once you’ve unlocked the auto feeder and the autograbber, as evidenced by my goop full of eggs. How did this happen? Oops. Again, relying on signs to remember to pet your animals is a good idea. Place your sign wherever you think you’ll see it the easiest. Right outside your door, for example, if it’s starting to get crowded with all of your other signs, or in among your crops if you’re watering by hand. I know that these signs can seem clunky, but if you get used to reading them and doing your everyday chores, eventually you can remove them and you will have formed a new habit. Also, here’s a little tip for petting your farm animals. If you have a lot of them and not forgetting or missing any of them, just hold down right click on PC the first time you pet an animal or whatever button corresponds to animal petting on console. And then you can run around holding it down to pet all of your other animals without any annoying dialogue pop-ups if you try to pet one that’s already been given some love that day. How many times have you forgotten that Clint closes at 400 p.m. or that Robin doesn’t work on Tuesdays? This is something that unfortunately doesn’t really have a magic fix, but there are a few tips and tricks that might help you out. While Clint closes his doors at 400 p.m., he keeps working until 5:00 p.m. So, if you get there at 3:50, you’ll still have plenty of time to do what you need to do. In fact, why not use up the space in Clint’s shop to place some furnaces? Stop by, process your ore, and the next day you can just pick it up and get your upgrade. Marne is just a disaster. She closes at 400 p.m. and also doesn’t work Mondays or Tuesdays, but since 1.6, six. You can purchase the animal catalog starting in year 2 and bypass Marne’s days off and her weird timets. We all know that Pierre commits the cardinal sin of closing on Wednesdays, but I think that we tend to forget that Joja Mart doesn’t close any day of the week and stays open until 11:00 p.m. It’s more expensive, but depending on what you need it for, it might just be worth it to shop at Joja Mart every now and then. If you complete the community center, obviously you won’t be able to access Joart, but Pierre will start opening on Wednesdays again. And if you go with Joja Mart, their prices will be lowered to match Pierers once you’ve paid for all the upgrades. Robin closes on Tuesdays and shuts up shop early at 400 p.m. on Fridays. And somehow I always end up needing her on a Tuesday. Because Mary’s and Robins both close on Tuesdays, I tend to try and plan around Tuesdays when sorting out stuff that I need for my farm. Of course, if you have the key to the town, you can access anywhere at any time. But shopkeep’s timets won’t change. With Marne’s animal catalog, you can access her shop at any time. and Willy’s boat to Ginger Island is also accessible at any time. You can also find Pierre manning his shop from 7 to 8:00 a.m. What a nerd. Now, I don’t know about y’all, but I constantly forget to bring my pan with me, and I always end up missing panning spots. Before 1.6, panning was kind of an afterthought. But now that you can upgrade your pan to enchant it, it is so worth it. If panning is incredibly important to you, but you don’t like how it takes up inventory space, you can always wear it as a hat by putting it in your hat slot and then whack it out whenever you see or hear a panning spot. I tried getting around this by putting the pan as a hat on my horse and then using my horse whistle to call them to me, but unfortunately the pan only works as a hat on the player. Also, pro tip, panning spots have a small sound cue that plays when they appear. Let’s talk about some UI and setting stuff. A lot of people forget that there are a few settings that you can change to make your life easier. For example, you can turn on your tool hit box so that you know exactly where you’re aiming at and don’t waste energy or accidentally destroy a crop. Another great setting is item stowing. This makes it so that you can put away any items that you’re carrying above your head without having to switch to a different item. This will save you the massive headache of accidentally gifting your one and only prismatic shard to pier, for example. What a nightmare. If you go ahead and turn on the advanced crafting options in your settings, you will get a lot more information when crafting items. You can see how much of each material you have on you, as well as how many of that item that you’ve crafted. This is super useful if you’re going for perfection and you still have some items to craft, but don’t know which ones you’re missing. You might already know these next two tips, but you’d be surprised how many people I’ve come across that don’t actually know or simply forget about these features. You can click this box here to check on community center bundles and it pulsates if you hover over something in your inventory that’s needed for a bundle. If playing on PC, you can press tab to cycle through your inventory in your hot bar. On console, it can be done by using the left and right bumpers on your controller, which is a tad more intuitive than on PC. Get yourself a dresser and store all of your clothes. I’m slightly ashamed to admit that I completely spaced on the fact that dressers can hold your clothes, including boots and rings. I used to just fill chests upon chests with all of the clothes that I’d find before realizing that dressers have infinite storage for clothes. Plus, if you want to move it, you don’t have to empty it first. Just don’t pick it up and put it away and forget where it is. I’m totally not speaking from experience here, but I might have spent a very long time looking for all of my clothing. Remember that the lost and found box exists. If you somehow lose any of your tools or quest items, they will end up here. But not only that, items donated to failed special request orders and items left behind at the Graange display in the fair and hats on children that have been turned into doves all wind up here. If you’re missing something, make sure to check the lost and found box in Louiswis’s house. Another big thing that a few of y’all mentioned was that it’s pretty easy to forget to use your statue of blessings and dwarven statue after unlocking them, especially before a skull cavern run. Now, what I’m about to say might sound borderline illegal, but why not craft multiple statues? You can leave them dotted around places like the entrance to Skull Cavern or the mine so that you never forget your buffs again. Granted, the statue of blessings might be a rough grind to craft multiple of due to the sheer amount of materials needed. But if you’re rolling in Aridium, you can easily craft two dwarven statues and leave one at the mines and the other at the Skull Cavern. That way, you’ll never forget to get your statue buff again. For those deep in the late game, you might have forgotten that you can unlock shortcuts around the valley from Robin after you’ve purchased the community upgrade to build Pama House. By purchasing these upgrades, you can unlock shortcuts through Cinderap forest to the beach, from the mountain satan, and many, many more. How often do you forget to check on your kegs, preserves jars, crystallariums, etc. Because I forget all the time. A great way around this is to set them up in your house so you have no choice but to see them when they’re finished, but that doesn’t really leave you with much decorating space. If you’re using sheds, you can place a keg, preserves jar, crystallarium, or whatever else you have in your shed right outside of the shed. When you do your rounds to fill your kegs or collect from your crystallariums or whatever you’re doing, make sure to fill the one that you’ve put outside because they will all finish up on the same day. You can see at a glance which shed is ready to be collected. And there you have 18 easily forgettable things in Stardew Valley and some tips that will hopefully help jog your memory. Definitely let me know in the comments below if I forgot anything. That would be pretty ironic, but honestly kind of fitting. Before I go though, please forgive me for freaking out about this, but there is 10,000 of y’all now. Actually, it’s probably closer to 11,000 by the time this goes out. And that is beyond my wildest dreams. Um, not to get too personal, but I lost my job as a translator just under a year ago. And since then, I’ve been putting everything I have into YouTube and my silly little Stardew videos. And I just want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for supporting me and saying such kind words in the comments. I am happy to help. And if I get my way, I’ll be doing this until I am old and gray. Granny Trashy’s top 10 tips for Stardw Valley 1.9. Anyone? 1. Love your videos and tips. I’m happy to say being fairly new I found some stuff on accident like getting to the beach passing the front of Leah’s house.
