Should I buy the lava katana or is there something better somewhere else? Iām currently in summer year 2 and have access to the skull cavern. My current weapon is the dark sword (see image 2).
If you have a prismatic shard take it yo the desert and up by skull cavern there are three poles go in thr small spot in the middle while holding the stone in your hands

Do you have a Prismatic Shard? If so go to the Desert and hold it in between the three poles in the top right of the Desert. That should get you a better sword

i know theres no wrong way to play etc, but it always saddens me to see people robbed of naturally discovering things like the hints that lead you to the galaxy sword.
maybe im just an old fart who thinks everyone should play games blind first try.

There are more than a few better weapons than the lava katana, but the best is >!a surprise!< >!just kidding, the best is the infinity gavel. It does the most damage, hits multiple enemies AT RANGE without even facing them, and it can be upgraded for 75% cooldown reduction. It’s so strong, i’ve never needed to enhance it in any playthrough except modded!<

It’s a good buy. It’s not the best weapon in the game, but it’s one of the best.

There’s going to be way more weapons, but if you don’t have a prismatic shard and access to the desert, it’s worth buying. However, if you have a prismatic shard and the bus is operational, you can access a really powerful weapon that later can be upgraded, too (don’t ever sell it).

Lava Katana has decent defense and good knock back if you are taking damage in the mines. If you have the bus fixed, or Willys boat fixed, there are better weapons outside of town.

Lava katana is a bad investment. It is expensive. Lot of weight and low speed are bad statistics. Steel falchion is better for its price.
There are several better weapons than these two anyway. Dwarf and dragontooth weapons can be obtained in the GI volcano. Galaxy and infinite weapons are nice too, once you unlock them with a prismatic shard and unlock dangerous mines/Skull cavern. Iridium needle is nice too.
No. If you have access to the skull cavern, much better weapons are just around the corner. Your lava katana may be marginally better than whatever you have now, but not good enough for the cost. The weapons you will get for free in the skull cavern are much much better.

Donate all 4 dwarf scrolls then read one of the gravestones in town. It will lead to a better sword than the lava katana. You could buy it, but I’d say save your money.

Kind of joking but also kind of serious, I freaking love the Insecthead sword. Every time I get that sword in the early game, I feel like that save file is about to blast forward with productivity until I get an actually good weapon.
