I did the same thing… It should have clicked sooner given that the message about running out of bait came up after every. single. cast. I just got annoyed at the game for having the message pop up every time because it’s not like I can add more than one! Right? Oh… God dammit…

Playing Console, it took me an embarrassingly long time to realize you could select just one item from Inventory Bar with ⬛️ I always selected all with ✖️ and place them all with ⬛️. So 1st time Fishing I loaded my Rod.

The advanced iridium rod allows two tackles and one bait, but this is one bait and one tackle at a time, and it will swap out to inventory when you change bait/tackle on this rod. Edit: unless you are talking about quantity of one bait, then yes, you can have up to 999 of a certain bait.

I was like 40 hours in when I realized you could swap inventory bars with a click of a button
I was going into my inventory and moving things to my “main” bar each time to use them
