If you have no mods, use your sword (I wasn’t sure if that was included in your tools), otherwise, like firstkindred said, you’ll have to buy a cheap sword to cut it down. To keep this from happening again, you could always put a torch here.

If you’re on PC, you could install a mod to be able to access all your chests from any chest and take your tools out that way. I know you’ve already solved this but it’s another option if future people find this post!
