If i understand it correctly, it doesn’t matter what armor you have so much as what the bar above you hearts is showing. Your bar was showing about half full so you were being protected approximately as much as full iron armor.

Creeper can deal a maximum of 64.5 damage
Prot IV Netherite Helm + Leg + Boots will reduce this to 30.3.

Anything higher than 20 damage is a 1-shot.

  3. Protection IV reduces damage taken by (4 × *level*)%. So if you have 3 pieces of prot IV armor, the damage take will be reduced by 48%. Now, creepers do 11 hearts of damage on easy, 43 on normal, and 64 on hard.

So if you’re on normal, the explosion would have inflicted 22 (.52*43) hearts of damage. If you’re on hard diff, it’ll be 33 (.52*64) hearts. So yes, you’re dead unless you were on easy difficulty.

    *Edit:*
*I forgot to take into consideration the type of armor you were wearing, but you’re still dead on hard diff. either way.*

  4. your first mistake was playing bedrock edition.
The second is that creepers deal an ungodly amount of damage, but it’s significantly reduced by blocks.

  5. creepers do ridiculous damage on hard, and absolutely can oneshot with 3 pieces of netherite prot armor, even if you all you were missing were boots, it’d still kill you

  6. Your first mistake was not putting torches all over the construction site as you worked on it to prevent mob spawns.

Your second mistake was not clearing out the entire area with a bow and arrow before resuming construction.
