I think they’re the best both in terms of what they provide in gameplay and their general design.
Design is obviously debatable. But for gameplay: They are (to my knowledge) the only food source that is *entirely* automatable.
I guess dried kelp also fits here. But thats comparatively so inefficient & such an annoying food source: it might as well not exist.
Chickens are also one of very few mobs that allow you to harvest resources without murder. Which is suprisingly rare.

Chickens. Pigs are just useless, they only drop meat. Sheep are only needed for wool. Cows give leather which is useful for saddles and enchanting. But chickens are easily breedable so much more convenient for food. Feather are also needed for arrows ig.

Sheep! All I have to do is provide grass and I get renewable building blocks and beds for builds? Heck yeah. Cows are also great for the variety of drops they provide, and chickens are quite easy to raise and automate. Pigs could use a buff tbh
