Its my first Fall ever and I found this guy named Salmence in Youtube. And I watched his Y1 Guides. And I feel like I'm only like halfway through the things he wants us to do. And I rlly wanted to finish the community center. So should I start over again? I dont mind starting all over again since I've learned alot of things that I should now accomplish for this starting over thingy. Ill just rlly be bummed out bcuz of Leveling up Fishing Skills and fishing for money. And mining for ores.

Edit: I know all the seasons will reset again after Winter. Should I wait for Year 2 to complete the CC? Its my most main reasons why I wanna start over again.

  1. If your sole aim is to follow this youtube video exactly and you have failed to do it then yeah it seems the only way you are going to achieve this aim is to start again

  2. It depends what you want to get out of playing. If you’ll enjoy the game more by optimising and doing everything in the most efficient way possible then sure, start over. But there’s absolutely nothing wrong with just keeping playing and doing stuff in your own time.

Hell, there’s nothing wrong with just ignoring bits of the game altogether and doing the bits you find fun!

Personally I wouldn’t start over. There is no penalty for doing things more slowly. You’re not going to lock yourself out of anything. And I find using guides like this un-fun precisely because it creates the feeling that you’re failing. I just look up the odd thing if I’m getting frustrated.

  3. Just play, drop the guides and checklists and just progress. Look something up if you get stuck, but this game really deserves to be experienced individually.

You start over on year 2 Spring 1. Why would you start a new file?

You can finish the Community Center in any year. There’s no rush.

  5. Unless you went in trying for this goal, just play for fun, there is no penalty to taking it slow. I took 2 years to get the community center and I’m now in year 6 just doing whatever I want each day.

I find when I stress or have a strick goal I don’t want to play, which defeats the point. So who cars if I miss something and have for spring to come again, play however you find fun

Salmence is a very experienced player who makes videos for people who’ve played many, many hours of Stardew and want to optimise their gameplay. If you want to start again and use the things you’ve learned from your first farm, go for it, but there’s never any pressure to play “right”.

Noo, just play it through. The fun is enjoying whatever you want. Although if you want to follow that then maybe restarting would be your best bet.

  8. Something I didn’t see anyone else mention is that the community center progress doesn’t reset on year change, you’ll keep all your existing progress and item submissions going into year 2. It’s just the seasons that cycle.

So unless it’s a self imposed goal to complete the CC in year one then I’d say keep going and enjoy your current playthrough, winter is a great time to mix up your farm layout too as you’re not doing much crop farming so it’s a great time to take all your current learning and set yourself up for success in year 2!

  9. It’s your first time playing, trying and enjoy the game for what it is! It’s not a race to get things done at a specific time. I’m on my 4th playthrough now and still never rush to get things done at a specific time, I can tell you for a fact I don’t have all of the things done that are in your photo by the end of the first year (didn’t get ancient fruit this playthrough until year 3!) if you are someone who enjoys having things as optimised as possible then you could restart, but I’d say for a first run just try and get to know the game and enjoy it

  10. Let’s think about it, the guide exists to make the game a smoother, experience for you. Would starting over make you experience more efficient/smooth? No, you’d still take two years to get it all even if you did it perfectly, because you already played a year. Therefore, starting over is by diffinition less efficient, because you’d lose your progress you already have, which can never be a negative. So starting over would be illogical from both an efficiency and an enjoyment perspective (starting over is tedious)

  11. why start over? what’s the rush just finish the CC whenever
don’t compare yourself to  an advanced youtuber

i always finished the CC in year 2

don’t speed run the game when you just started out playing, take your time

  12. Existential_Stardust on

You don’t have to rush to finish everything. I usually don’t finish the cc until year 2. The beauty of the game is that you can play it at your own pace in your own way

  13. If you didn’t select the box that says year 1 completion of the community centre when you created the farm, then there is no reason to start over. The red cabbage is needed for the community centre and you can’t get those till summer year 2 anyway.

  14. The only reason to start over is to try something new, like one of the other farm layouts or Joja vs community center. You’re not “behind” you didn’t miss anything.

Starting over will only make it harder to achieve whatever it is you are trying to.

Don’t throw away your progress. Nothing’s lost. The game is great when you can relax while progressing.

  16. “I watched his Y1 Guides. And I feel like I’m only like halfway through the things he wants us to do”

Are you playng to make this youtuber happy and play what he wants you to play or are you playing for your own enjoyment?

  17. You get multiple save slots. If doing something like following a guide to optimize Year 1 would be fun for you, then go for it. Use a new save file and try it out. If you know it will be stressful for you, or if you start and it becomes stressful, then stop and go back to your OG save.

I tried following something like this with a new save file and it took all the fun out of the game for me. So, I stopped playing that save game and started a new one. The new one has remixed bundles and dungeon rewards, so I don’t know anything about those things, and I’m playing super casually. It’s been really relaxing and I love it.

  18. I’ve played like 20 farms and I’m on my third go of trying to do CC in year one. Pretty sure I’m going to miss it again 🤷🏼‍♀️. It’s all good.

First farm it took me until year 7 to complete because I didn’t use the wiki (and the fish are hard to work out lol)

  19. gremlinsbuttcrack on

No definitely not. That dudes guide a basically a speed run guide, but you have unlimited time, unlimited years. Just play and enjoy

  20. morelikecrappydisco on

Oh man I have never finished the community center in year one, it’s technically possible but the game was not designed that way, you need a red cabbage that you can’t even get the seed for until summer year 2 right? I know some people will stalk the forest cart for those but it’s such a pain to do so. And I am terrible at fishing, I always forget at least one seasonal fish and still need it in year 2. There is absolutely no reason to rush the game unless that is your preferred play style.

  21. Unlucky-Violinist473 on

Update: Thank you so much for the answers. I decided I’d js wait for another Year 2 to come. I js rlly hope I can finish it in year 2. Wish me luck!

  22. I would suggest just continue on your current farm without any pressure of finishing by a specific date. Just use it as an opportunity to practise and learn the mechanics. Once you’ve successfully done it once, then you can start improving.

Also that pic might be outdated when it suggests building kitchen is needed. All you need is a cookout kit to cook the few dishes. The cookout kit was added in 1.5, so that pic may be from before 2020.

  23. If i am not wrong he mentioned these are not to be followed as is, and rather consider it a general suggestion and things to move towards, its fine if u didn’t go max efficiency, enjoy the game and go at your pace its completely fine.
