A fresh port of Human Companions, a 1.20 mod, with a slew of added features reached its release-ready version v1.1.0!
Modern Companions places new structures into the Overworld, where they will be inhabited by a lonely Companion. This Companion will request food and resources from you and once fulfilled, they will join you in your adventure!
Companions have unique names, stats with 14 different classes to find and recruit;
- Knight: Balanced melee with swords/clubs/spears; reliable frontliner.
- Vanguard: Shielded tank; actively raises/lowers shields against ranged threats (respecting axe breaks/cooldowns), +HP/KB resist, 30% projectile DR, resistance aura ticks, and taunts monsters off the owner.
- Axeguard: Axe bruiser; heavy hits, closes to melee.
- Berserker: Ramps damage as health drops, cleaves nearby foes, high KB resist, lighter armor mitigation.
- Scout: Fast skirmisher; speed+jump buffs, reduced fall damage, bonus damage on backstab or distracted targets.
- Archer: Classic bow user with ranged AI; auto-equips bows/arrows.
- Arbalist: 1.21 crossbow behavior (charge/cooldown/LOS); favors crossbows.
- Beastmaster: Bow + scaling pet; buffs nearby tamed animals and deals bonus damage to beasts.
- Cleric: Support melee; periodic heals/regen/resistance to allies under 65% HP, extra damage vs undead, carries totem/golden gear theme.
- Alchemist: Potion support; throws regen/heal at allies and weakness/slow at enemies, sometimes upgraded potency; uses dagger/staff if no potions in hand.
- Stormcaller: Trident brawler; calls lightning on hit (shorter cooldown in rain/thunder) and gains brief strength after striking.
- Fire Mage: Caster that peppers foes with precise, non-igniting blaze fireballs and occasionally fires a heavier ghast-style blast.
- Lightning Mage: Precision caster dropping single-target lightning and 4-target chain bursts that hit harder during storms.
- Necromancer: Wither-skull artillery that can raise short-lived wither skeleton allies; other companions treat the summons as friendly.
Companions gain experience and pick up items and do not have a level cap. Their inventory is easily accessible;
A Beastmaster Companion and their pet Wolf
Companions can be converted into an item preserving their inventory/stats for moving between dimensions, sorting, and easier transport.
When Companions die, they will drop a Resurrection Scroll that will need to be charged with a Nether Star in order to revive your fallen companion.
Modern Companions also comes with a set of custom weapons, to accent the different classes weapon preference, here are a few of them;
Modern Companions also comes with a way to recall any lost Companions, the Summoning Wand.
The Summoning Wand will pull any living companion you may have to your location.
There are also new enchantments that will benefit your Companion specifically. A set of buffs to their base-stats obtainable via dungeon chests;
Empower – Adds Strength | +1/2/3 (Levels I/II/III)
Nimbility – Adds Dexterity | +1/2/3 (Levels I/II/III)
Enlightenment – Adds Intelligence | +1/2/3 (Levels I/II/III)
Vitality – Adds Endurance | +1/2/3 (Levels I/II/III)
A Companion's attributes directly influence their stats.
Health scales with level and END; STR boosts damage/knockback, DEX boosts move/attack speed + light KB resist, INT increases XP gain and raises magic damage, END adds health + physical reduction.
I loved making this, and I'm excited for you to try it!

“port of Human Companions” brother this mod is much better than that, also “a slew of added features” is a bit of an understatement, this is basically Human Companions 2, great job!
Btw if you haven’t already you might want to make a short “trailer” and upload it to youtube as a short and tiktok, might help you get some more downloads that this mod definitely deserves.
Holy shit this is so cool, can you make it so being on a different team makes them hostile to one another? I want to lead a battle squad against my friends 😀
Also Relics compat would be insane but I feel like thats asking for too much.
