This is a follow up to this reddit post here on r/Minecraft, which I think is worth sharing. It will not affect Minecraft's fanbase, but it will bring another game for the blocky sandbox genre that needs more well-known titles.
Long story short, Hytale has been in delevopment for 10 years and created some hype in 2018. It was cancelled this summer under Riot Games, but the founder of the original studio, Simon Hypixel, bought it back and now early access is set to release on January 13th.

Never got the hype for this game. Looks like a Minecraft mod in all aspects.

i really hope hytale takes off and seriously makes the minecraft devs think twice about the direction the game has gone.

I just dislike the idea of payed mods…..

i have very little faith in a game that spent 10 years in development with very little to show for it
People overestimate the overlap in target audience this game has with minecraft. Hytale is much more niche than minecraft and both have very different identities while only feeling similar. I think the vast majority of total minecraft players is not interested in this fantasy rpg

Get real, dude. Hytale isn’t going to put a dent in Minecraft, the little they have shown off so far looks dreadful. This game is going to have zero depth, and I expect it’ll take years of them fumbling in early access until it has anything real.
Do not give them money. They’ve already gone through one cancelation, and now they’re desperately shoving out this extremely under baked early access slop to try and recover costs. It is giving serious abandonware vibes, I would not trust them.
I don’t want to be an ass, but i dont see this game ever being a competitor to Minecraft. It looks like fun and will likely have a loyal dedicated fanbase that plays it but I dont see this game touching Mojang’s biggest market, that being bedrock users and a lot of kids. I think a lot of java users will enjoy it as well as the people in their 20s who have been following its journey this whole time.
Hytale before GTA6 is crazy.
Hopefully it doesn’t pull a Maplestory 2.
The pull this game will have is going to be Hypixel and loyal followers of Hytale from the beginning. Sizable, but a far cry from making a huge dent in Minecraft’s playerbase.
Hope it does well but I never felt the pull of Hytale. The pseudo-realistic textures are off putting, hot take
