I know that the caves update has been out for a while.
I played Minecraft on and off since 2017 but wasn't actively playing when the caves update dropped.
Genuinely curious on you guys opinion on it.

When I first got back to the game afters years of not playing it was terrifying but now I think it's beautiful and compared to the earlier versions of the game diamonds aren't as rare as they used to be.

  1. They are great, but I do miss the old noodle caves, exploring seemly endless mazes of them and getting lost.

Love it. Actually provides a challenge, makes caving more dangerous.

It’s not as easy to just throw yourself into a cave and get everything single thing you need instantly.

Now you need to prepare before caving.

Also makes night vision potions more useful because the huge caverns can be hard to see in sometimes because of the darkness.

  3. I hate them. So hard to light up, and diamond veins feel… underwhelming. I often play 1.16 for that reason. Deepslate mines so slowly too, and the mobs feel more like a nuisance than a threat, considering you can see ’em 40 blocks off.

  4. Love the caves now but somehow with black / darker stone they aren’t as eerie. I went from Xbox 360 to Java 1.20 so quite the change. The older caves were more grim I think. Like lava now is standard where as in the old caves it might have been the only light source of any sort other than player placed torches.

Id like if the change from stone to deepslate was more than 8 blocks in the newer caves. Plus bringing back the older ravines would be a nice touch. But instead of just in the stone layer they go further down.

  5. i hate big caves

it’s all dark and there’s whole lotta mobs

so i usually just strip mine all the time

Been playing since 2010. Easily one of the best updates they’ve made. I will spend a whole day just exploring the caves and come out with chests full of resources. Not a fan of drip stone but the lush caves are incredible.

I definitely don’t miss strip mining forever just to find some pathetic cave that you explore in 5 minutes.

  7. I miss the old caves, to be honest. Like I do reallyl ike the depth of the new ones and the so on, but it feels like every cave in any world I drop into is just one huge connected thing. It’s harder to explore them, and much harder to efficiently light up. I miss the older, linear caves. They just didn’t feel so overwhelming.

  8. Playing since late 2019, they are kind of good but it’s just harder to strip mine in since it is easier to walk into a cave

I like them but some are just way too big and go on for way too long. I’ve gone caving with s shulker box completely full of torches and have run out of torches before I reached the end of the cave system. Climb my way out of the cave to the surface and find myself a s couple thousand blocks or more away from my base. Sometimes it’s a good thing but I won’t stop til I reach the end of a cave or run out of torches, food or my tools are close to breaking.

A lot more fun, but sometimes a bit overwhelming since it often doesn’t end. I also dislike the diagonal crevasse caves. PITA to get through.

I like them, but there are too many, and it has all but eliminated the smaller tunnels.

  12. I really love them! I’ve played a long time and it’s nice for caving to feel like a real adventure, the different types of stone are nice too as it adds a lot of visual variety.

The diffrent opinions are so intresting here, because some clearly like them and the others hate them. In my opinion one of the best updates, because I really like exploring and not just stripmine. I like how big caves are packed with recources but in exchange they are hard to light up and full of hostile mobs. Also I really like the new biomes, exploring them is fun. Over all Id say its all very fitting into the whole mining aspect

Playing Minecraft on your gaming laptop at a Burger King. True American experience right there

  15. Amazing, but also the most ruthless terrain ever. The update made me want to cave explore again, rather than endless strip mining

  16. I like the increased depth underground, but I don’t like that there‘s no way to mine deepslate quickly in vanilla. So it’s both good and bad.

In modded I just built a tunnel bore with Create, and now it’s a breeze.

I hate how common it feels like massive caves are. Doesn’t matter how many torches I bring, I run out in like 15 minutes. I prefer the smaller maze-like caves.

I will say, the new underground biomes are very cool.

I wish you could still get small caves like the old ones, I love the newer ones but damn bro I don’t always need a tunnel big enough to fit the Large Hadron Collider inside the mines
