Possible to make this only one block out from dispenser?

Is there any possible way I can make this only one block out from the dispenser?

This is to check if there are shears left for the wool farm and if there are none in the dispenser the light turns off

    Put a block on the back of the light where the redstone block is, put dust on the dirt the comparator reading the dispenser is powering. The comparator will power the dust> dust powers the light trough the block.
