Unable to activate conduits in Secrets of the Shadows

So anytime I try to place the blocks in the conduit it doesn't let me but I can place any of the other blocks inside of it. If I try to place the blocks first it doesn't work either, it just gives me back the blocks. I'm in early hard mode, I haven't killed any bosses since WoF and the SOTS wiki isn't very clear about how they're placed or requirements. I'm not sure if I'm doing it wrong or if a mod is messing with SOTS. Its my first SOTS playthrough with other mods enabled, mod list is in photos and I'll try to post a video of the conduit giving back my blocks
