It’s possible to eventually unlock the ability to purchase animals and supplies when she isn’t around. I can’t remember what I did to unlock it though.

There’s an item (late game I think?) that let’s you purchase items even when she’s not at the shop! I think it’s a book? Not sure, don’t really remember.
