Ig even Minecraft isn't safe. Thankfully this is only in the UK but still it sucks. Now you have to verify yourself to chat. That's bad news to anyone under the age of 18.

  1. Sadly Mojang really doesn’t have a choice. It’s now the law in the UK, if they don’t do it, they’re gonna end up in legal trouble.

  2. As someone from the UK who is 31, who has a 15/16 year old Minecraft account… I am so goddamn tired of this crap…

  3. 18 feels too old, this def makes sense for like 8yos but teenagers should absolutely be able to talk in minecraft. then again, it remains to be seen what this actually means, for one its almost impossible to enforce on java with the modding scene

  4. It’s the UK government’s new policy to “protect children online” by forcing everyone upload their private and confidential government issue ID cards/driving licenses/passports or submit an age verification scan of their face in order to access online content. But there have already been system failures, privacy issues and leaked IDs. The UK government have attempted something which sounds good in theory, but in practice has opened millions of people up to security risks, privacy breaches and identify fraud.

Jesus….why are so many game studios focused on making their games worse in some areas?

    First roblox….and now minecraft.

It’s only in the UK for now

Keep in mind all of this online safety act and age verification stuff was only in the UK at the beginning and now look at where the whole Internet is

The UK government is just being there idiotic stupid annoying, controlling selves and it needs to stop

  7. Anybody with half a brain knows age verification is not about protecting children, infact, it can actually put children in more danger, cause, guess what, children aren’t dumb! they’ll find ways around it! But some of those ways aren’t safe!

Age verification is about control of the people, it always has been, and always will be, and yet, I see so many people fall for these lies

(I’m not saying this is mojangs fault, cause it probably annoys them too, this is just the UK being the hellhole it is!)

  8. Maybe I’m just weird, but I didn’t think anyone actually used the chat function for anything other than commands.

Why are the UK and Australia always trying to become a dystopia? what the fuck is wrong with you people?!

The UK government is wild. Sending cops to your house for a facebook post lol now you need a license to minecraft. Crazy world

  11. Frankly, I watch my kid. I don’t need some oversight that will require me to fake his age so that he can play solo or with his few friends from school. This stuff is infuriating and I tell him to always create accounts with 2000 as his birth year.

We got burned with Nintendo and I cannot change his age, and he has stuff from years ago, he can’t just start over on a new account. So some features require me to enter a PIN which I have given him.

  12. Luckily (for now), I’m not in the UK.
But they keep getting more and more invasive and greedy regarding data and if they keep going that way, at some point I will just abandon the game as I don’t want to comply to every bit of their wishes.

^((Edit: Reading comments I see it’s about a UK law, when writing my message I was rather thinking about Microsoft.))

LMAO…in the UK. Don’t you have to scan your face before you watch adult content online? Hahaha.

So what happens to people that aren’t 18 that paid their money for the game?

I assume they’re not getting refunds?

Fun fact: Washington state, where Microsoft is headquartered, is currently facing a similar law that would require citizens provide proof of age to view adult-oriented online content. It’s called HB 2112, and was just discussed on Friday for about 2 hours in its first public hearing.
