the source lava block has to be directly above the block the pointed dripstone is on, not sure if you need the dripstone block

You can also… Change gamerule for lava to behave like water, so it creates more lava.

I have about 10 of these lined up in a row and I’ve never needed fuel since. 10 is nice too when you need to make some obsidian for a portal. You just need a mould of 10 holes to pour into and then just run water over them.
