My thoughts on the Minecraft Monthly

  1. Okay but I shouldn’t have to rely on rng/luck for something so simple. Getting a sniffer isn’t an early game activity for most, wheras wanting a pet to stay a baby is more likely to be something done more early game

  2. Age-locking is supposed to be tied to an earlier stage of the game

Finding a sniffer is way way tougher than some gold and a flower and moving such a simple feature to an obscure mob would completly gut this addition

Sniffer deserves better but he should have just dig more new flowers instead of completly obscuring cool stuff

  3. Yeah I like all the ideas people have for the sniffer but I imagine the 7 year old starting Minecraft for the first time could use an easier way to keep their kitten small

  4. YESSS! Make us go through 7 individual steps just so that we can have kittens in our base. We NEED an extra precursor seed item for a 1 use flower so that we can make our sniffer farms less efficient and waste everyones time as the babies age reguardless~~

  5. Comparing shulkers and elytra to wanting your pets to stay as baby is fckng insane.
Locking one useful flower behind sniffer won’t make it better.

  6. Eternal youth in a game where you don’t age? Huh? Something flew over my head can someone explain what this guy is talking about?

I’m glad to see so many people talking about the Sniffer now, it’s genuinely my favorite mob and I wish it was more useful too!

  8. good idea! it could also make the totem of undying craftable? make a + shape, with the seeds / flower in the middle, and then an emerald at the top (fill the rest with wool or wheat or something)

  9. The main people who want to age lock most commonly will be casual players. Locking it behind a small handful of structures which most people don’t know exists, using an even lesser known mechanic, hatching an egg, waiting for it to grow and then getting lucky. Can you see the issue here?

If you want to add more stuff to the sniffer locking a very useful item behind several layers of complexity is not the way to do it, especially since similar cosmetic items are just craftable without the BS.

Sniffer is so underutilised it makes me sad. So much potential and only 2 decorative plants. Not worth the effort 🙁

  11. I’ve been wittering on for ages about how the sniffer needs more seeds – I’d love to see some extras added as biome specifics. Like – keep the current two everywhere, but some biomes add an extra one as well.

I’m not sure golden dandelion fits the sniffer though. Golden dandelion is like dandelion plus extra – whereas the sniffer seeds are something new and different. I’d rather see them introduce new seeds that create things that could be considered a precursor to current items (like, but not exactly, an ancient non-cultivated version of wheat or carrots for example) than derivatives of current items.

But the sniffer definitely needs something. When it was first added, I immediately went out on a mission to find them. I soon had a big farm with multiple sniffers, producing way more of these plants than I can ever use.

In my next world, I still went out to find an egg, but only got two, bred for two eggs, neither of which I hatched (insurance eggs really, for just in case).

In my current world…. when i saw somewhere that might have the eggs I went to look, and luckily got one… but it’s just sat in storage unhatched.

I’d love to be enthused about them again.

And you’re so right about it giving an extra reason to go out and explore other biomes.

I’d love to see more features which interlink biomes. Sniffers which find different seeds in different biomes. A creaking heart which spawns different variants of the Creaking depending on which tree/biome it’s inserted into.

Like the warm/cold/temperate versions of frogs/cows/pigs/chickens. Like the different wolf variants. Like how villagers are born with different outfits depending on the biome. More of this! Though preferably not game altering (locking Mending behind a biome-specific villager would suck, but having aesthetically different yet functionally identical versions of things is fun).
