Tbh, I think they should drop the requirement for gems to make the Ore Staves to just one, i.e. 10 Platinum Bars plus one Diamond makes the Diamond Staff. That would make it relatively easy to get weapons on par with Ore Bows.
As for the bigger problem, I really do think the only way to fix Mage as a whole is to just get rid of Mana Sickness entirely, but the world isn’t ready for that conversation.

Prehardmode Mage Class is nothing without the Demon Scythe. Completely carries the class prehardmode

Early game mage options aren’t my main gripe with the class, my main issue is that there’s not a whole lot that’s meaningful to obtain between evil bosses and skeletron.
Both bee gun and weather pain are super meh, space gun is (potentially) alright since the buff. Zapinator and demon scythe are both fantastic, but are very rare and/or out of the way.
I wouldn’t say magic missile gets outclassed, it’s basically a flamelash sidegrade that’s better for mobbing but worse on bosses. Aqua sceptre is also one of the best options for wall of flesh since it got buffed. If there’s a post-skeletron mage weapon that’s outclassed it would be the flower of fire (and maybe water bolt)

Early game mage sucks sooooo much ass. Why is there no crafting recipe for wand of sparking? Why do the gem staves cost more then their metal-tier equivalent weapons for the other classes? Why do gem staves SUCK SO MUCH ASS?
WHY DOES THE JUNGLE HAVE THE MAGE ARMOR SET, BUT NO MAGE WEAPONS IN ITS CHESTS, OR FROM ITS CRAFTING MATERIALS?!

you can put demon scythe after gem stuff or any other weapon that can relatively ok’ish kill demons, that way you will be able to suffer firstly then go on rampage with skeletron and wall of flesh, making way easier than melee and less smart than ranged.

This “issue” only exists if you’re limiting yourself to a single class. There isn’t a rule anywhere saying you are only allowed to use one class’s weapons through the whole game, and the game is balanced around the expectation that you don’t.
Placing an arbitrary restriction on yourself and then complaining about it is a you problem, not a dev problem.
