The Melee class in Terraria just got out of hand in Terraria 1.4.5…
Terraria has 4 classes, summoner, ranger, mage and melee, before they were pretty balanced, but with Terraria’s new 1.4.5 update, Melee became completely broken.
1.4.5 added a bunch of buffs to existing melee weapons, while also adding completely new Terraria 1.4.5 Weapons. These changes might break the game.
This class is now broken for Terraria Expert mode or even Terraria Master Mode on the new Terraria 1.4.5 Secret Seeds. Completely overshadowing every other Terraria Class Progression

8:56 to be fair, on certain new dungeon spawns you can fight skeletons (and thus collect bones) before beating skeletron. That helps rangers at least. I was even able to get a gold key and make it to a dungeon chest (of course the item was the sword though, LOL)
This weapon can beat fishron, premech, with ease. Shows him using infinite flight in the fight. Something tells me the weapon isn't all that great in the fight or he wouldn't have "cheated" by using endgame flight.

And thats like it. Those are good swords, but they feel like the only good non projectile melee weapons worth using. I was realy hoping for the flint to be an on hit effect weapon, there are too few of those.

7:04: How did you get Terra Blade to swing that fast? As far as I know, it’s impossible to make it that fast! Even with a MAX melee speed setup, it still shows a minimum of 5 frames per swing. It has not been able to be fast enough to only show 3 frames per swing since before 1.4.4.

I really need to do a mage run without the Mana Flower (or at least without any mana potions in my inventory). I have a feeling the only reason mage feels so bad to people is that they just default equip the Mana Flower to keep their mana charged. This keeps mana sickness perpetually active, reducing magic damage by up to FIFTY PERCENT.
Do you play master mode? I'm just wondering because some of your claims make the items seem stronger than they seem to me
Melee being the best class or the dev's favorite class went from mostly a joke I partook in because it was funny and not that bad an issue to absolutely serious in 1.4.5 and now I'm actually pissed.
1.4.5 despite seemingly being summoner-centric with the new whips I feel was instead just shadownerfing Summoner by removing whip stacking, then making it socially acceptable with all the new useless whips.
I only used the Cobwhip to have a whip before the leather whip and both were useless when I had the Snapthorn. The Spinal Tap was mostly useful for range but I generally made do with just the Snapthorn until Hardmode at that point. Then Hardmode was a boring slog of only using the Firecracker until Plantera, couldn't even properly do Dreadnaughtilus now because no use of any other whips, and didn't even bother with The Vulgar Display of Flower because it was outclassed immediately by the Mourning Star in range and with minion crits. Then it was Mourning Star until Kaleidoscope, then couldn't even properly dps race daytime empress of light (dps race boss btw) with no whip stacking, and then the only more useful whip I got was the Constellation right after that which made Kaleidoscope absolutely useless by having better minion crit chance and a special effect at the same time? What's with that awful progression?? Didn't even bother with the Possession postgame, the playthrough was an absolute slog with no variety and I hated it. Vanilla Summoner is just unplayable for me now.
I even used the wiki to know where all the mew whips were ahead of time and yes I could've done Duke pre-mechs and gotten Electric Eel but I was playing with friends and didn't wanna immediately solo a harder, intended for later game boss when we could stay on tier with each other. Not to mention Electric Eel kinda just being Darl Harvest before Pumpkin Moon which means it's useless after Plantera anyways. Also all melee speed whips are ironically useless, Snapthorn was the only one I could use and then it was just Firecracker most of the game after. Making whip use entirely dependent on better stats and not synergy made it super boring and I genuinely hate playing Summoner now, especially since all I got in return were netflix adaptation oldies besides one blatant and nigh-immediate outclass at the end, oh and I also got to see the slightly wider half of the Terraria community flare up in "ends justify the means" arguments towards a skillset they had no investment in to begin with and therefore lost nothing with its removal as if "everyone can agree."
Edit: I forgot to write two things before. While impractical, it's salt in the wound that melee weapons can get melee attack speed buffs from whips but not other whips for actual Summoner use. I can tell the favoritism peaking from there. But also- I am baffled why Mage wasn't buffed instead of absolutely superbuffing Melee as if to tell Summoner not to threaten Melee at the peak of the game or something. Like, Mage and Summoner have always been the two magic classes. Maybe buff the other magic class while you're already at one of them anyways. More salt in the wound I guess, really needed that. Anyways my main point on whips is that there was no variety when I played, removing whip stacking made progression worse and the new whips didn't smooth it out at all honestly. I loved accounting for the different whip ranges in combat and having synergies, that was just awesome.
I've been playing since before wall of flesh existed. Melee has always been mid or low tier in almost the entire game's existence. Melee is OP now? Good. About time.

Remember when the classes are balance with their own pros and cons? Mage has good crowd control, their weapon are also the best at seeking and piercing at the cost of limited mana. Ranger has good single target damage, using ammo. The melee has damage and piercing but only hit from close range, with later options having limited ranged damage.
Now? Melee has piercing, range, crowd control, seeking, no resources to manage except your health, better armour and accessories, more staying power.

For some reason I don't trust you on your opinion, and your video was not convincing. My biggest critique is probably the fact that you say: "Those are just random numbers on a screen, what really matters is ingame performance" and then proceed to show clips killing bosses with said weapons with invincibility on. I especially doubt shadowflame knife pre-mech fishron is viable. I mean, it is possible, someone beat him in pre-mech with true melee, but it is not an easy task, or even a normal one. Anyway, neat video idea <3
Taking away whip stacking is still so stupid. It was the one thing allowing summoner to make older whips still relevant by interacting with each other. Each whip was useful for a certain type of summon, encouraging some brain activity when choosing whips for a boss fight. I mean, for moonlord, you use stardust dragon with firecracker, the wall of flesh drop, for the final boss.
If they are so hell-bent on making it more accesible and removing the need to swap whips, why not make a crafting tree for the whips similar to the zenith: just combine the older whips into a stronger whip and eventually roll them into one zenith whip at the end. But no, apparently we need a reskin of the zenith instead of giving other classes a zenith style weapon of their own. So if relogic wants players to use only one whip at a time, then the zenith-style crafting trees for them makes sense to add the tag damage and the effects into one whip.
Also, making the spider armour need the hardmode anvil and flinx staff needing 3 more flinx furs is just making it more annoying to get for no reason. (Btw, keep in mind that the flinx fur coat still lacks a headpiece and legs to form the complete armour set)
But for melee, they just get buffed across the board. No downsides, no such considerations. Also, ranger's darts change is also a bit of a slap in the balls for no reason, like the spider armour and flinx staff changes.

I think if they added a parry to replace dodging with melee weapons and more incentives to actually be in melee range the class would become more interesting and balanced. But that would take a complete rework and i doubt it will even happen
