I always go bats. I always see people say mushrooms but I really don’t get why? You can get all the mushrooms other ways(caves/foraging and now in 1.6 mushroom logs.) I guess they are a little more consistent for money than fruit? I don’t think they are worth it
If you have good rng luck you don’t even need to buy fruit trees to complete the community centre year 1 if you get the bats

I chose bats because the last time I chose shrooms, I forgot to check the cave on the reg. Now I can just let the fruit pile up til I remember. It’s helpful if you’re taking the Community Center route, too.

mushrooms are the 100% objectively correct choice. bats mostly just give you forage fruit, which you are absolutely drowning in by year 2. mushroom logs are okay but you have to manage the trees around them and they don’t give you anything mushroom cave doesn’t give with less space taken up in your farm until you get access to A Special Tree later.

I go bats because mushrooms you NEED to go there every 2.5 days or something to maximize the yields. For bats, you can forget it for a season or two and the fruits stay right there and accumulate

you can culture mushrooms using mushroom logs. they’re easy to unlock and make as well.

In the long run it doesnt matter. In the end game you’ll be able to churn out a whole bunch of fruit and mushrooms using fruit trees and mushroom logs respectively.
In the early game the difference is:
– Bats will give you a whole variety of different fruits, which is needed for the community centre. Getting fruit trees established is kind of a chore, especially if you grow the trees outside and not in the greenhouse. So this is a good option if you want to complete the community centre quicker.
– The mushroom cave also gives mushrooms, two of which are required for the community centre (red mushroom and purple mushroom). However both of these can be foraged for in the mines, which is a lot easier to do than setting up fruit trees. However, the upside is that mushrooms have a higher dollar value than fruits and you can sell them, and I believe they provide better healing/energy than fruits if you eat them.
I’d choose the fruit bat cave, personally, but if you already chose the mushrooms, it’s not a big deal. I actually chose the mushroom cave on my first farm actually and I don’t feel like I was disadvantaged.

This used to be a very easy pick for me (bats). But the addition of the free dehydrator makes it a tougher call now

I chose shrooms and always have a 99+ stack in my inventory for a quick snack. The fruits are inconsistent and non-stackable, and I plant fruit trees in the greenhouse anyways.
