Pre-1.5 update, which added the mushroom tree seed as a distinct item (one that *looks* like a mushroom), ‘Weeds’ was an object you got if you dug up a seed that had fallen from one of the mushroom trees that can appear on your farm in Fall. The ‘weeds’ item looked a bit like a cross between fibre and the living hat.
I got them a couple of times, until I learned to recognise what a mushroom tree’s dropped seeds looked like. What I would do back then is, the minute one of my Fall trees turned into a giant mushroom, I’d clear out all the trees around it, so I’d know that any seeds appearing around it would be mushroom trees.
Once the new-style mushroom-shaped seeds were added in 1.5, that problem went away, as digging up one of them – even at stage 1 (before they’ve started to sprout) you now get the seed instead of the ‘weeds’ object. This dialogue was probably left over from pre-1.5 and was never amended or removed.
