I've literally maxed farming, foraging, and mining (about to max fishing and combat) on my main save and I've been wondering how to get it, thanks!
I'll be honest i do both. Got ancient fruit in my greenhouse, starfruit on ginger island then the other seasonal crops (unless it's summer) on my main farm with kegs for starfruit and dehydrators for the ancient fruit.
Ancient Fruit, anything to do less planting, I'm the same with Blueberries and Cranberries

To shorten it: the best way to get ancient fruit early is to slaughter bug enemies in the early mines floors. If that doesn't work out, wait until you can make a bunch of seed makers and brute force it that way.
The other methods are not worth actively going for. Treat them as ways you can randomly get lucky, but don't go out of your way for them.
I personally always do ancient fruit because its 7-day regrow period perfectly matches the 7-day keg processing period
Fill the greenhouse with ancient fruit, use starfruit in summer.
Why not both? Ancient fruit greenhouse and star fruit summer crop and ginger island crop.
I always turn my no star crops into seeds for planting and eventually completely eliminate Pierre's existence. Getting ancient seeds from there is a bonus.
Got 1 day 7 of spring 1 and almost had a heart attack then proceeded to get one a week later

I started a new save and immediately threw all my ancient fruit that I grew in the seed maker when my green house was ready. Now it’s spring of year two and I have a full green house of ancient fruit. I think I will take y’all’s advice though and use ginger island for star fruit and keep my green house for ancient fruit
in my newest save I got 4 ancient seeds in 6 days, 2 from bugs, 1 from digging and 1 from fishing

On our world, my friend got an ancient seed on her first bug kill in the mines. I was floored
