So as the title said after defeating the wall of flesh and entering hard mode the game genuinely feels like I'm starting all over again on expert mode everything is cracked.
Trying to explore is becoming a serious chore as everything after the underground zaps my hp before I can blink
I've read the wiki but still don't know how to progress.
Are there things I should have done/gotten pre-hardmode? any tips going forward?
Also I didn't expect corruption to start spreading from the desert again, how bad it going to get???

Break demon altars wuth the pwnhammer
First thing a google search would tell you to do is break demon altars
Well that’s not really on you, hardmode is a big step up from pre-hard mode, even in classic difficulty.
It’s a good tip to isolate the corruption or crimson biome before heading into hardmode but even if you do it there is still the hardmode V which is inevitable.
The only thing you can do is try to contain it using sunflowers and digging down at least a three block wide tunnel to save your biome before too much spread.
As far as progression goes, explore again your caves and make a palladium armor or the counterpart you got from breaking altars. Look for hardmode ores and upgrade!

Which bosses did you fought till now?
You maxed out ones hp with heart crystals, did you bother farming applicable bosses or resources to upgrade your gear?
The only checklist i have before hardmode is getting the best gear I can and exploring to get wings and a few other accessories like boots and various other utility items and then tinkering everything to put warding on everything for extra defence.
after you beat the wall of flesh and you enter hardmode, you are supposed to break demon altars with ur pwnhamer. breaking 3, spawns the next 3 tiers, breaking more makes them more common, you can break as many as you want, they will be more common, but evil biomes will spread faster afaik.
Now, in hardmode its better if you focus only on one class, such as mele ( you do whichever you want) as you will get more accessories for that class. if you dont want to go fully blind, search for terraria class guide, then follow the guide for your class, mainly to see where stuff drops.
then you will have to fight the mech bosses to progress, in whichever order you want.

also, make a big arena, with campfires, heart lanterns, bastet. etc
Grab either titanium or Adamite armor and work to kill goblins for the shadow knife it’s a throwing knife that has infinite throws like a gun almost and then I would get the spider summon made from killing black recluses and issuing their fangs but u will need either mytril or the other ore to make the next anvil which u will have to break and have a furnace in your inventory to be able to craft the furnace to be able to smelt adamite or titanium then really just work for drops and small boost and trying to play the right class I’m in the same situation rn I’ve gotten majority of the drops and haven’t beat a mech boss yet or the queen slime
